AGAIN, the girls have beaten boys in education and study by scoring the top slots in each subject in class X and XII examinations conducted by CBSE this year. Although, the gap between the pass percentage of boys and girls is a little less than that of the last year, the girls have proved their sincerity, dedication and diligence in study.

Girl students are giving much better performance in each examination right from matriculation to graduation. This year, the total number of 90 per cent holders from the country'scapital is 1905 of whom 954 are girls in CBSE examination for class XII. The girls have proved to be the best learners as their pass percentage is 85.8 whereas the percentage of the boys is 78.2. Similarly, the girls have done better than the boys scoring 84.72 per cent and pushed the boys behind with percentage of 84.24 in class X CBSE exam. In Delhi, the girl students have scored higher than the boys registering pass percentage of 77.68. Around 260 students have touched 95 per cent of whome 155 are girls and 105 are boys. Not only their pass percentage is better but also they have ranked top on the list. The Delhi topper Aswini Vaidya in class X from Hillwood Academy of Preet Vihar, who has scored 98.4 per cent, said that the key to the success is her sincerity and attentiveness. It can be said that it is the girls? turn and the success is touching their feet. The daily newspapers surprised the people by publishing the story of a Bangalore girl Aparna Muralidhar who has scored 99 per cent in CBSE class X exam, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya.

The idea that continuous tuition and coaching help the deligent students in securing the good marks and position on the list was proved wrong. Radhika Bansal, the Delhi topper in commerce from DPS, R.K. Puram who has scored 94.7 per cent aggregate, said. ?I was a very regular student and dedicated six hours of study everyday. I never took any tuition. I always keep a proper balance between studies and extra curricular activities.?

Securing 100 marks in the subject like English is a remarkable achievement in CBSE class XII exam. But Deepanjali Itkar of Greenway Modern Senior Secondary School, Dilshad Garden, did it. She is the only student from Delhi to score 100 in English. The underlying method she has is her good handwriting behind this achievement.

Though, English proved to be tough and difficult for many students, it is not so for her who wants to pursue mass communication as her career.

It is said that the development of a nation lies in the development and progress of women, particularly in education. Monica Gupta from Kulachi Hansraj Model School, Ashok Vihar, in commerce stream has not only ranked first in the school but in the whole country in the disability category. She scored 93.2 per cent. The 17-year-old Monica, despite having physical disabilities, said: ?Don'tcomplain about what you don'thave, maximize on what you have and keep on going.?

Here the question arises, why the girl students are performing better than the boys. It may be understood that the concept of modernity has influenced and touched every walk of life so that today'sparents are more conscious about their daughters. They are more concerned about their studies, their physical and mental capabilities. For the last few years, the competition has been more intense between the boys and girls in education and employment sector. And this appears to be the main reason that leads the girl students to be more sincere and practical towards attaining higher pedestal in education.
