As part of the birth centenary celebration of Shri Guruji, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad concentrated on expanding the organisational work and also making the work more effective. The expansion work began in the year 2003 when it has organisational units at 4098 places. Now in the year 2006-07 the number of units has reached to 4,594 places. The membership also reached to 14,51,657 from 11,01,848. Earlier the Parishad had work in 2,709 colleges now it has spread to 3367 colleges. The Parishad mainly took up three programmes during the birth centenary celebration. First was the self study camp for boys and girls in colleges, hostels and localities. Such camps were organised in all districts of the country. Workshops were also organised at certain places. Only in Uttar Pradesh, such 60 workshops were organised in colleges in which 25,000 college students participated. To apprise the ordinary students of the views of Shri Guruji, general knowledge competitions were organised in Western Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha Prants. More than 1,42.149 students participated in the competitions. A joint marathon was organised in Kanpur. Similar marathon of more than 3,000 students was also organised in Jaipur. Shri Guruji Olympiad was also organised. A list of 1,500 blood donors was also prepared and Sanskrit students conventions were also organised.
To strengthen the social harmony the ABVP organised Samarasata Yatras in different Prants. The yatra lasted for 109 days in Andhra Pradesh. During this period 176 villages and 156 hostels were contacted. Over 82,590 students participated in the Yatra. A Yatra was organised in Madhya Pradesh from Baitul (where Shri Guruji kept in prison) to Indore. It covered the distance of 1200 km in 10 days. The Yatra in Karnataka covered 21 districts and 25 colleges in which 24, 500 students participated.
The survey of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes students was conducted in 11 Prants. In Remaining Prants it will be conducted after six months. The Parishad has started an extensive movement to solve their problem. The movement was very effective in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Maharashtra, Mahakaushal, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Rajasthan, etc. (FOC)
