A peacock came across a white crane in the lake. On drawing close to the lake, he saw his own reflection and with pride opened his feathers in their full glory. In his wish to show the crane in poor light, he said to the crane, ?See what beautiful feathers I have. Don'tyou also wish that you should also have such beautiful feathers which are a feast for the eyes?? The crane, not one to take things lying down, flew up and down before replying, ?Just see how I fly. It is all because of my white feathers. You have such colourful feathers yet you are unable to fly up or swoop down. I think I am better off than you are.? Feeling somewhat mortified, the peacock strutted away as he could think of no reply to give. This just goes to show that mere physical appearance is not enough. What is necessary is that it is of some use else it has no value except to please for a short while.
