Emergency operation centres in disaster-prone districts
A state-level emergency operation centre has been inaugurated in Bhubaneswar by State Revenue Minister Manmohan Samal, which will work round-the-clock to coordinate the relief and other disaster response activities. The state centre would be connected with the district emergency operation centres, being set up in 16 disaster-prone districts in the first phase. These districts are Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Puri, Angul, Rayagada, Keonjhar, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Sambalpur.
The state and district emergency centres will be equipped with sophisticated communication equipments like VHF set, satellite phone, internet facility and high frequency wireless sets. District emergency operation centres in six coastal districts, namely Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Puri, will operate round-the-clock, Shri Samal said. Satellite telephones have been provided to 18 districts while wireless sets have been installed at 378 places including all the 30 district headquarters, 314 block headquarters, and 30 disaster-prone gram panchayats, he said.
