Ninth International book festival to be held in Kochi

The 9th International Book Festival will be held from December 3-12, 2005 at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium grounds Kaloor, Kochi. The festival will be organised by Antharashtra Pusthakot-savam Samithi, Kochi.
Kochi has the unique distinction of being the first Indian district to achieve 100 per cent literacy. Newspapers reach almost every citizen. The Kerala High Court, The southern Naval Command, Cochin Port Trust, Cochin Shipyard, B.P.C.L, N.P.O.L., C.I.F.T., and several other institutions of importance are situated in this city. There are a number of educational institutions in Kochi which include the prestigious CUSAT (Cochin University of Science and Technology), School of Marine Sciences, Sri Sankara Sanskrit University, several first grade colleges, medical colleges, law colleges and reputed schools. Several prestigious IT projects are in the pipeline for this city . Kochi is also a centre of cultural and sports activities. Seminars, symposia, poets? meet and other cultural events are regular features.
Kochi, with its several linguistic and cultural groups, scientific, cultural and educational institutions, has always been a healthy market for book-sellers. More than 100,000 people visited the fair last year.
