Delhi unit of Sewa Bharati has launched an extensive drive to collect one lakh sarees to present them to the deprived Vanvasi women of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Orissa, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sikkim and other Vanvasi areas of the country. Akhil Bharatiya Sewa Pramukh of RSS, Shri Premchand Goel has himself taken up the initiative and is visiting every district of Delhi to appeal to people to donate sarees. His appeal has produced good results and more than 24,500 sarees were collected in one day only. Various social and religious organisations of Delhi like Sanatan Dharma Sabha, Arya Samaj, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Balaji Trust, Bharatiya Janata Party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other organisations have responded very enthusiastically.

Talking about the drive, Shri Premchand Goel said that the whole country had been divided into two groups?Shri Krishna and Sudama. ?Need of the hour is that Krishna (the well-to-do families) needs to fulfill his responsibility towards Sudama who represents the underprivileged people. Sewa Bharati wants Shri Krishna to himself visit Sudama'shouse and hold his hands so that an atmosphere of social harmony is developed in the society. The well-to-do people must think about his or her underprivileged brothers,? he said, adding that the Sewa Bharati had resolved that no one in the society should remain illiterate and hungry by the year 2007. It is to be noted that Sewa Bharati has planned a number of projects for underprivileged people to be implemented in the year 2006, which will be celebrated as the birth centenary year of the second Sarsanghachalak of RSS, Shri Guruji.

Inaugurated by the third RSS Sarsanghachalak, Shri Balasaheb Deoras, in the form of a bal samskar kendra in Jahangir Puri, a juggie jhaupari colony of Delhi, in the year 1978, the Sewa Bharati is today an All India organisation running more than 60,000 service centres across the country. Delhi alone has more than 500 service centres, which run more than 1,570 projects. More than 10,000 people are engaged in Sewa Bharati projects all over the country.

Talking about the underprivileged Vanvasi women, Shri Goel said that there were certain families in the country wherein even today seven to eight women have less than four or five sarees. The day, they have to wash the sarees, they could not go for work. He said that activities of Sewa Bharati among Vanvasis had won over their confidence and they had started responding positively. He said the sarees would not be distributed among them as are distributed among beggars. ?The workers of Sewa Bharati will present them as gifts during their extensive contact drive,? he said.
