Shri K. Suryanarayan Rao, former Akhil Bharatiya Sewa Pramukh of RSS, laid the foundation stone for homes to be built by Sewa Bharati in Arattupuzha Panchayat for the tsunami victims. The function was held at Kurayappasseri temple, Kollam, in an atmosphere resounding with mantras on May 7. Swami Swaprabhananda of Ramakrishna Ashram, Pala in Kottayam, blessed the people assembled at the function. Shri J. Nandakumar, Sah Prant Pracharak, Marad T. Suresh, state general secretary of the Hindu Aikya Vedi and leaders belonging to other Hindu organisations also participated in the function. Bhoomipooja was performed at the site, which was handed over to Sewa Bharati by the state government to build 52 houses in three different wards.

Shri Suryanarayan Rao said that it was a happy occasion when the foundation stone was laid. But it is with a heavy heart because a very great loss was borne by the tsunami victims. Help has been offered for the victims from all corners of the world. It is a matter of satisfaction that we can now rehabilitate the victims efficiently,? he added. He said that it might take two years to complete the construction work.

Shri Rao pointed out that in Nagapattinam, the Tamil Nadu state government had its nod for constructing 840 houses by Sewa Bharati. ?Our workers cremated 2,500 dead bodies and brought back 115 persons from the mouth of death. In Kerala 6,000 activists worked round the clock to rehabilitate the victims. Shri M. R. Prasad, secretary Sewa Bharati and Shri M. K. Raju, president of the local Sewa Samiti, also spoke on the occasion.
