Country'sleading social organisations have lent their support to the distressed women of Nagpur who recently killed a notorious criminal Akku Yadav in the court premises. The representatives of these organisations that include Rashtra Sevika Samiti, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Vidya Bharati, Bharatiya Stree Shakti, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Samskar Bharati, Durga Vahini, Vivekananda Kendra, Deendayal Research Institute, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Himalaya Parivar, My Hindustan and others have urged the court to ?take a human view of the act of the women and understand the spirit of the act in the light of Section 100 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, which permits a victim to even cause the death of her assailant in exercising her right to private defence specially in the case of a rapist?. The women representatives said that the deprivation of faith and confidence in the criminal justice system was reflected in the anger of the women who had mobbed the court room and killed the habitual criminal who had raped women and children and committed crimes of extortion, robbery and murder.

The women representatives while upholding women'srights and dignity as paramount also condemned the efforts of a section of media that projected the rapist as a hero. ?Such protectors of criminals who work in the garb of human rights activists should also be penalised as the abettors of crime in society,? they said. The women representatives, who met in Nagpur on August 17, claimed that this could happen with any rapist if the criminal justice system repeatedly failed to provide justice to women of the country, which was evident in the lax investigation machinery, poor forensic systems delayed judicial verdicts and embarrassing cross-examination procedures.
