Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the country'slargest labour organisation, has strongly criticised the UPA government'sdecision to reduce interest rate on Employees Provident Fund (EPF) from 9.5 per cent to 8.5 per cent. The BMS has decided to organise a protest rally in Delhi on September 20 to register its opposition against the anti-labour decision of the communist-backed UPA government. ?It is most unfortunate that in spite of the BMS placing statistics in the Board Meeting on August 9 showing a surplus amount of Rs 330 crore, if 12 per cent interest is given to workers, the Union Labour Minister, Shishram Ola, who is also chairman of the EPF Board, has ignored it and declared 8.5 per cent interest on EPF. Such decisions will create more anomalies and problems,? the BMS said in a statement issued in New Delhi. Talking to Organiser in New Delhi, BMS president, Hasubhai Dave, said that the decision of the government was against the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of the UPA, and against the law in terms of its nature of interim decision and also against the workers? interest. ?Not to speak of unanimity it is not even the decision of a majority. The government has indeed imposed its own decision on the workers,? Shri Dave added.
