A high-level delegation of various industrial associations of Delhi led by Shri Vishwa Mitra Bahal met Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit, to apprise her of the plight of nearly one lakh small-scale industries (SSIs) being run in non-conforming areas of Delhi. The SSI units have formed a Laghu Udyog Sangharsh Samiti and have attached it to the Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB) to fight against the threat of their closure. These industries are under the threat of closing down as per the latest Supreme Court order, which stipulates the total closure of SSIs being run in the non-confirming areas by September 7, 2004. Since the deadline for the closure is near, the delegation requested the Chief Minister to take immediate steps to save the industries. The Chief Minister assured the delegation that she would take up the matter with the Central Government to assure the Supreme Court that they would make necessary changes in the Master Plan, 2021, thereby regularising the areas with predominant industrial concentration through an ordinance.
