“Stability, ability and performance of the NDA government are the major grounds on which the BJP will win, not only in Haryana but all over the country,” claims I.D. Swamy, Union Minister of State for Home. In an exclusive interview to Organiser, he has expressed the hope that the party would win most of the seats in the state. Excerpts:
What are the prospects of BJP in Haryana?
The prospects are very fine. The Congress and other parties including the INLD took too much time to decide their candidates. On the other hand, the BJP has completed the second round of campaigning. People have great respect and regard for the leadership of Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee. Even those people, who support the Congress and INLD, now feel that since there is no chance of Congress coming to power, why should they waste their vote by supporting it. The common man has turned to Atal Behari Vajpayee and there is a Vajpayee wave not only in Haryana, but also all over the country. BJP will win most of the seats in Haryana.
Is BJP going alone in Haryana or will it form an alliance with some party?
The style of functioning of Shri Chautala has hurt everybody. Our party workers were helpless, as our party high command had decided to have an alliance with him. But now we have decided to contest all the seats alone. The BJP has now become a major force in Haryana. We have mobilised the rural voters and the people are turning to BJP in a good number.
There are talks of BJP having an alliance with Haryana Vikas Party (HVP). What is the truth?
There is no hope. We shall fight alone.
What are the grounds on which the BJP win is assured in Haryana?
After seeing five years´ performance of Vajpayee government, people have reposed more faith in us. That is why we have decided to go alone in the state. The grounds, which are more formidable, are that we have taken a stand on Ram Mandir and other issues. For the first time since Independence, we have successfully provided a stable non-Congress government. Stability, ability and performance of the NDA government are the grounds which will ensure our win.
