HUNDREDS of Government employees belonging to Railways, Defence, Postal, Telecom, Central Secretariat, IMD, AFHQ, IT, Finance, Currency and Coins under the banner of Government Employees National Confedera-tion (GENC), affiliated to Bharatiya Mazadoor Sangh (BMS) felicitated Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, for merging 50 per cent Dearness Allowance in the basic pay.
Thanking the Prime Minister, Girish Awasthi, Dy. Secretary-General, BMS, appealed to the Government not to go in for reduction of the Government staff keeping in view the huge population of the country. He emphasised that unless the situation becomes stable in the private sector in creating meaningful employment and use of surplus manpower in the country, the Government should continue to provide employment in order to reduce the unemployment. Shri Awasthi also urged the Prime Minister to set up a Permanent Bi partite wage negotiating machinery and increase the income tax limit up to Rs. 1.50 lakh.
The Prime Minister assured the gathering that he would consider positively the demands of the Government employees for setting up of the 6th Pay Commission. Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, MP and Chairman, National Sports Council and Shri D.M. Raodeo, Secretary-General, GENC also spoke on the occasion. (FOC)
