Nagpur: The festive spirit of Ganeshotsav has begun to take hold of Nagpur as the historic Dakshinamurti Ganeshotsav Mandal in Mahal welcomed Bhagwan Ganesha with its traditional ‘Bappa Aagman’ celebration on September 7, ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14.

According to sources, Dakshinamurti Ganeshotsav is among the oldest Ganesh celebrations in Nagpur and was one of the prominent mandals to bring Bappa ahead of the main festival. The early arrival of Bhagwan Ganesha is part of a wider trend in the city, where several public Ganesh mandals have advanced their Aagman celebrations to manage traffic and logistical challenges.

This year, the Dakshinamurti Ganeshotsav pandal has been themed around the Alandi Temple and Sant Dnyaneshwar, adding a spiritual and cultural dimension to the celebrations. The theme is expected to draw devotees interested in the rich devotional heritage associated with Alandi and Sant Dnyaneshwar.

Bappa Arrives Ahead of September 14

While Ganeshotsav officially begins on September 14, the arrival of Bappa at several public mandals in Nagpur has started well in advance. Herambh Ganesh Utsav Mandal welcomed its murti on September 6, while Dakshinamurti Ganeshotsav in Mahal celebrated its Bappa Aagman on September 7.

The early arrivals are not simply a change in tradition but are increasingly linked to practical considerations. With large murtis and several mandals collecting their murtis around the same time, traffic congestion and difficulties in transporting the idols have become significant concerns. The report noted that some mandals are therefore choosing to bring Bappa earlier and conduct their Aagman processions separately, allowing devotees and organisers to participate without the congestion normally associated with simultaneous murti movements.

The change in scheduling has also allowed mandal members to participate more fully in the Aagman celebrations. According to the report, scheduling the arrival on a holiday can help organisers involve more members and facilitate larger processions. With Bappa already making his way into Nagpur’s historic Ganesh mandals, the city is witnessing the beginning of an extended festive season. The early arrival of Bhagwan Ganesha at Dakshinamurti Ganeshotsav Mandal reflects the continuing devotion surrounding Ganeshotsav while also showing how traditional celebrations are adapting to the practical challenges of large-scale public festivities. As devotees prepare to welcome Ganpati Bappa Morya, Nagpur is gearing up for the main Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on September 14.
