Kerala Governor Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar told that Sree Padmanabha Swamy is with us and let all march forward for the progress and glory of the society and the country. He was inaugurating the postal Permanent Pictorial Cancellation (PPC) and a ₹200 premium special cover honouring the legendary Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, which were released by Kerala Postal Circle of India Post, on August 10, at Loka Bhavan, Tiruvananthapuram.

The Governor said that such ‘protection’ activities should not be confined to the Postal Department alone. It should become our routine. We can protect and propagate our culture and environment.

The Governor stated that Keralam stands for harmony, unity, spirituality and our ancient culture. They are going to be picturised by post. Postcards showing the pictures of the state animal, elephant, and the state bird, hornbill, were also inaugurated.

The pictures speak out what our culture and tradition stand for. By issuing these envelopes, our postal department gives the message of our commitment to our environment and nature.

The State Governor added that there are thousands of varieties of birds in the state. On top of them, there are a lot of migrant birds. We do have bird sanctuaries. If we organise a ‘mega bird festival’, it can attract foreign tourists.

Several important personalities participated in the programme. Deputy Mayor G.S. Ashanath, Chief Post Master General Amitabh Singh and Aditya Varma, the member of the Tiruvitamkoor royal family, spoke on the occasion.

Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple governing council members Karamana Jayan and Adv. K. Velappan Nair, Corporation Councillor Harikumar and N.R. Giri were present.

All of them, including the Governor, raised the tricolour as part of the Ghar Ghar Tiranga programme. The Postal Department gave national flags to all participants.
