Barpeta: In a milestone initiative that could reshape access to medical education for underprivileged students in Barpeta, Seva Bharati Purvanchal, Barpeta District Committee has launched the district’s first completely free coaching programme for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). The pioneering initiative seeks to remove financial barriers to quality coaching and provide academically gifted students from economically weaker families with an equal opportunity to pursue careers in medicine.

The programme was formally inaugurated at Sankardev Vidya Niketan, Barpeta, by Deepak Kumar Das, MLA of the 24 No. Barpeta (SC) Legislative Assembly Constituency, who described the initiative as an exemplary model of community-driven educational service.

At a time when professional entrance coaching has increasingly become inaccessible for many families due to its high cost, Seva Bharati’s intervention represents a significant step towards democratising access to one of India’s most competitive examinations. The organisation’s initiative is expected to benefit deserving students whose aspirations of becoming doctors are often constrained not by merit but by limited financial resources.

The coaching programme has been introduced for NEET-2027 aspirants and is designed to provide comprehensive academic support entirely free of cost. Beyond classroom instruction, the initiative also aims to build confidence, strengthen conceptual understanding and equip students with effective examination strategies through sustained mentorship.

Addressing the inaugural function, Dr Kamal Krishna Das, President of Seva Bharati Purvanchal, Barpeta District Committee, said the organisation recognised that numerous talented students were unable to enrol in expensive private coaching institutes despite possessing the academic potential to succeed. Responding to this long-felt need, Seva Bharati decided to establish a free coaching programme so that financial hardship would no longer become an obstacle to educational excellence.

Dr Das informed that the first batch consists of 10 students, selected through a screening test. Classes will be conducted three days a week, with 12 classroom sessions every month, alongside online classes to ensure uninterrupted academic engagement.

The programme will be led by experienced faculty members, while students who have previously qualified NEET will also mentor participants by sharing practical insights into preparation techniques, time management and examination strategies. According to the organisers, the coaching will maintain a limited intake of 15 to 20 students to ensure personalised guidance and close academic supervision.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Deepak Kumar Das said NEET remains one of the country’s most challenging competitive examinations, demanding disciplined preparation and proper academic guidance. He expressed confidence that many talented students from Barpeta could secure admission to medical institutions if provided with quality mentoring and structured coaching.

Highlighting the academic challenges faced by aspirants, particularly in Physics, the legislator observed that focused conceptual learning and expert guidance play a decisive role in competitive examinations. He noted that Seva Bharati’s initiative would help students prepare more systematically while bringing them closer to fulfilling their dream of joining the medical profession.

The launch of the programme has generated widespread appreciation among students, parents and members of the local community, who have described it as a timely and socially meaningful intervention. Many expressed hope that the initiative would inspire similar educational service projects across the region and create greater opportunities for deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

By introducing Barpeta’s first completely free NEET coaching programme, Seva Bharati Purvanchal has established a new benchmark in community-led educational service. The initiative stands as a notable example of how voluntary organisations can complement formal education by expanding access, promoting merit and empowering talented youth through inclusive, service-oriented interventions. If sustained and expanded, the programme has the potential to become a model for educational outreach not only in Barpeta but across Assam.
