NEW DELHI: Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, alias Abu Hashim, a high-ranking commander and founding figure of the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, died after tumbling down a flight of stairs at Markaz Qadsia in Lahore. The facility currently functions as the primary headquarters for the terror group and operates under the custodianship of Talha Saeed, the son of UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed.

According to details shared via social media updates regarding the incident, the development has sent ripples through regional security circles

Role of Abu Hashim in terror, finances, and recruitment networks

Abu Hashim was a critical asset within the LeT hierarchy, holding key administrative and operational responsibilities. Apart from being a recognised founding member, he served as the deputy chief of the terror group’s financial network, known as Khidmat-e-Khalq.

Additionally, Sarwar functioned as the LeT Punjab province chief. In this strategic role, he directly oversaw extensive terrorist recruitment operations across the Punjab province while aggressively spearheading underground fundraising and donation drives to sustain the outfit’s militant infrastructure. Due to his extensive network and role in transnational terrorism, he was officially designated as a global terrorist by the United States.

The fall resulted in critical and severe head trauma, causing him to succumb to his injuries on the spot. Network insiders confirmed that comprehensive arrangements were finalised for his Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayers), scheduled to be held at Markaz Qadsia.
