Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s relatives’ property demolished during anti-encroachment drive in Baramulla
SRINAGAR: Authorities in J&K’s Baramulla district demolished an illegally constructed shed linked to the relatives of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru during an anti-encroachment drive, officials said.
The structure, locally known as the Dairy Farm, was reportedly located on government land in the flood basin area of Sopore. The Revenue Department team carried out the demolition after notices had reportedly been served for eviction.
According to the Baramulla administration, several kanals of prime State land under unauthorised occupation were retrieved during the operation. The illegal structures and occupation were removed, and the land was restored to government control.
Officials said the structure had been erected in violation of government regulations and was being occupied by family members and relatives of Afzal Guru.
The administration identified Tabasum Guroo, wife of Afzal Guroo, along with Sajad Ahmad Buhroo, Tariq Ahmad Buhroo and Manzoor Ahmad Buhroo, in connection with the alleged encroachment.
The action forms part of the administration’s ongoing drive to protect government land from unauthorised occupation and use. Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those found involved in illegal encroachment of State land.
The Baramulla administration has indicated that similar anti-encroachment operations will continue across the district in accordance with the law.
Mohammad Afzal Guru was convicted in connection with the 2001 Parliament attack case and was executed in February 2013 following the completion of the legal process. The latest demolition, officials said, was carried out over alleged unauthorised occupation of government land and was part of the broader effort to reclaim State property.
