KOHLAPUR: The changing geopolitical environment, India’s geographical position and the conduct and ideologies of neighbouring countries have made the role and responsibilities of the armed forces increasingly important, Sri Kadsiddheshwar Maharaj, Mathadhipati of Kaneri Math, said on October 3.

He was addressing the inaugural session of the two-day national convention of the Akhil Bharatiya Purva Sainik Seva Parishad (ABPSSP), which began at Kaneri Math near Kolhapur on October 3.

The convention brought together around 400 former servicemen delegates from different states across India, along with members of the armed forces community and other dignitaries.

The programme commenced with the singing of Vande Mataram, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Sri Kadsiddheshwar Maharaj extended his blessings to the former servicemen and spoke about the continuing importance of their contribution to the nation.

He highlighted the significance of the work undertaken by soldiers while serving on the country’s borders and also acknowledged the selfless service rendered by personnel after retirement.

‘Responsibilities of armed forces increasing’

Sri Kad Siddheshwar Maharaj said that when international affairs, diplomacy, India’s geographical circumstances, neighbouring countries and their respective ideologies are considered together, the work and responsibilities of the armed forces are becoming increasingly significant.

He explained the complex geopolitical circumstances in simple and accessible language for the former servicemen attending the convention.

Drawing upon examples from Indian history, he emphasised that the importance of the armed forces has remained constant through changing circumstances.

He also referred to India’s historical and civilisational journey and highlighted the wider geographical influence of Indian culture in earlier periods.

He described how Indian culture had extended from Indonesia to Afghanistan and from Sri Lanka to Tibet, while referring to India’s rich historical legacy.

Former soldiers’ contribution highlighted

The Mathadhipati also underlined the importance of the services provided by former soldiers after their retirement.

While military personnel undertake their duties at the borders during their active service, their contribution to society does not end with retirement, he said, according to the organisers.

The address placed particular emphasis on the values of selfless service, national duty and commitment associated with military service.

The gathering provided a platform for former servicemen from different parts of the country to discuss issues concerning the veteran community and their continuing role in society.

Senior military officials attend convention

Several senior military personalities and representatives attended the national convention.

Among those present were Lieutenant General Chaturvedi, National President of the Akhil Bharatiya Purva Sainik Seva Parishad, and Air Marshal Pradeep Bapat, President of the Maharashtra-Goa unit.

Representatives associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the armed forces were also present, including Pradeep Joshi, Lieutenant General Nimbhorkar, Brigadier Marathe of the Infantry School, Belagavi, and Vice Air Marshal Nitin Vaidya.

The organising team included Colonel Vilas Sulkude and Anna Kumbhar, among others.

The convention was also attended by decorated and accomplished soldiers from Maharashtra, members of the Matru Shakti, and former servicemen representing various states.

Two-day convention concludes on October 4

The national convention is scheduled to conclude on October 4, with Maharashtra’s Soldier Welfare Minister Shambhuraj Desai scheduled to address the concluding session.

The two-day gathering aims to bring former servicemen together and recognise their contribution to national service while providing a forum for discussions concerning the armed forces community and their continuing role in public life.

The organisers said the participation of around 400 former servicemen from across the country reflected the continuing engagement of veterans with matters concerning national service and society.
