Imphal: Big success for security agencies in Manipur. National Investigation Agency (NIA) made its first arrest in the sensational abduction and killing s of six Naga civilians.
“On the basis of credible inputs from their own sources, a joint team of Manipur Police, NIA and CRPF launched a precise operation to apprehend two accused who were allegedly involved in killings of 6 Naga individuals on 13th May 2026 in Leilon Vaiphei village”, a statement by Manipur police reads.
The operation was launched in the early morning hours of 10th June at Leilon Vaiphei.
In the operation two persons suspected to be involved in the heinous killings were arrested. The arrested individuals were identified as Pradip s/o Tomba, R/O Leilon Vaiphei village and Ayingbi w/o Pradip, R/O Leilon Vaiphei village. Sources said that both the arrested individuals are husband and wife. They played crucial roles in the abduction and handing over the civilians to Kuki militant groups.
The NIA and security force teams carried out necessary search and seizure procedures. Following the vital arrests necessary legal formalities are being conducted by both NIA and Manipur police.
On June 9, six Naga civilians who were abducted by suspected Kuki militants over three weeks ago have been found dead. The recovery of the mortal remains of 6 Naga people just after one day of the release of the 14 Kuki civilians created anger amongst the Naga community. The six individuals were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13, 2026. It took nearly 24 hours of relentless, round-the-clock search operations to find their mortal remains. NIA took over the probe of the six Naga people abduction and killing case on June 10. The mortal remains of the 6 abducted people reached JNIMS hospital late at 10th June night. Officials of NIA along with a forensic team reached the hospital and collected the sample for investigation. Nearly one month after the start of the investigation, the NIA made the first arrests on June 10.
Meanwhile in his second visit to the trouble-hit state of Manipur, CRPF Director General GP Singh reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness in the state in Imphal. “Continuing his tour of Manipur, DG CRPF, presided over a crucial meeting with ground commanders at GC Imphal. He issued clear, firm directions to maintain law and order across the region and ensure firm and resolute action against armed miscreants”, a statement by CRPF reads.
