
Viral Video of Crane-Hoisted Van Explosion During Muharram Procession Sparks Nationwide Outrage
Badnagar/Ujjain: During a Muharram procession in the Badnagar tehsil of Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh, individuals allegedly staged a dangerous display involving an explosion. Following the surfacing of this incident, the administration and police have swung into action. A video viral on social media shows a Tata Magic van being suspended approximately 40 feet in the air by a crane and then blown up. The video also captures people waving religious flags and setting off fireworks during the procession.
The incident reportedly took place during a Muharram procession passing through the Adan neighborhood of Badnagar. The viral video shows the phrase “Le Phir Aa Gaye” (We Are Back Again) written on the vehicle. Additionally, visuals have emerged showing youths performing dangerous stunts, setting off fireworks and engaging in risky displays in a public space.
The police took cognizance of the matter after the video went viral on social media. Action has been initiated under the National Security Act (NSA) against four individuals, including prime accused Shoaib Khan, Talim Khan and Zahid Khan, while a search is underway for another accused. An FIR has been registered against the accused, and an investigation has commenced.
Questions are also being raised regarding the necessary permissions and security arrangements for the procession. Preliminary information indicates that an inquiry is being conducted into whether permission for the event was obtained and if adequate police force was deployed at the site. Authorities are also examining why the officials on duty failed to take timely action.
After the video of the incident surfaced, people on social media expressed outrage over such a dangerous display in a public place. Many described it as a serious threat to the safety of ordinary citizens. Meanwhile, various organizations have demanded an impartial investigation into the entire matter and strict action against those responsible.
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has reacted sharply to a viral video from Badnagar showing a van being hoisted high by a crane and then blown up during a Muharram procession. Terming it a serious issue regarding public safety, the organization has demanded an impartial inquiry.
VHP National Spokesperson Vinod Bansal stated that such explosive and dangerous displays of strength in the name of religious events are unacceptable. He alleged that such incidents appear to be attempts to create an atmosphere of fear and demonstrate power. Tagging Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and the state police, Bansal questioned how such an event was granted permission and why safety standards were not enforced. He demanded strict action against the culprits and an immediate investigation into the entire episode.
After the viral video surfaced, the Ujjain police took cognizance of the matter and announced that action would be taken. According to Additional SP Karandeep Singh, all aspects of the viral video are being investigated, and action will be taken against the concerned individuals in accordance with the law if safety standards were violated. If the investigation reveals the involvement of others, action will be taken against them as well.
Following the circulation of the video, many people on social media described the display as dangerous and provocative. Meanwhile, several organizations have demanded an impartial probe, accountability for responsible officials and the implementation of strict safety standards for such events in the future. Objects are also seen flying through the air during the blast.
The video further shows the vehicle being lowered to the ground after the explosion. Subsequently, two youths climbed onto the roof of the van and the vehicle was hoisted back up by a crane. During this time, they were seen waving red Islamic flags. Bystanders watched the entire sequence of events amidst the commotion and slogan-shouting. Social media user Kajal Hindustani shared the video on X, strongly criticizing the incident and describing it as contrary to Muharram traditions.
User Prachi Yadav termed the incident a “dangerous stunt,” noting that the van was suspended at a height of approximately 40 feet and set ablaze during the procession; this caused panic in the area due to the explosions and demonstrated a disregard for safety standards. Similarly, an X account named ‘Mission Ambedkar’ criticized the incident and demanded strict legal action against those responsible. Meanwhile, Devesh Dubey questioned the role of the administration and other bodies, demanding an impartial investigation and accountability. Many others have similarly expressed their outrage on social media regarding this explosion during the Muharram procession.
