VHP Expresses Concern Over Ujjain Incident; Demands Probe and Strict Action

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has reacted sharply to a viral video from Badnagar showing a van being hoisted high by a crane and then blown up during a Muharram procession. Terming it a serious issue regarding public safety, the organization has demanded an impartial inquiry.

VHP National Spokesperson Vinod Bansal stated that such explosive and dangerous displays of strength in the name of religious events are unacceptable. He alleged that such incidents appear to be attempts to create an atmosphere of fear and demonstrate power. Tagging Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and the state police, Bansal questioned how such an event was granted permission and why safety standards were not enforced. He demanded strict action against the culprits and an immediate investigation into the entire episode.

Investigation Underway

After the viral video surfaced, the Ujjain police took cognizance of the matter and announced that action would be taken. According to Additional SP Karandeep Singh, all aspects of the viral video are being investigated, and action will be taken against the concerned individuals in accordance with the law if safety standards were violated. If the investigation reveals the involvement of others, action will be taken against them as well.

Social Media and Local Reactions

Following the circulation of the video, many people on social media described the display as dangerous and provocative. Meanwhile, several organizations have demanded an impartial probe, accountability for responsible officials and the implementation of strict safety standards for such events in the future. The viral video shows a Tata Magic van being hoisted into the air by a crane. Subsequently, the vehicle was blown up, resulting in a loud explosion and scattering of vehicle parts. Objects are also seen flying through the air during the blast.

The video further shows the vehicle being lowered to the ground after the explosion. Subsequently, two youths climbed onto the roof of the van and the vehicle was hoisted back up by a crane. During this time, they were seen waving red Islamic flags. Bystanders watched the entire sequence of events amidst the commotion and slogan-shouting. Social media user Kajal Hindustani shared the video on X, strongly criticizing the incident and describing it as contrary to Muharram traditions.

User Prachi Yadav termed the incident a “dangerous stunt,” noting that the van was suspended at a height of approximately 40 feet and set ablaze during the procession; this caused panic in the area due to the explosions and demonstrated a disregard for safety standards. Similarly, an X account named ‘Mission Ambedkar’ criticized the incident and demanded strict legal action against those responsible. Meanwhile, Devesh Dubey questioned the role of the administration and other bodies, demanding an impartial investigation and accountability. Many others have similarly expressed their outrage on social media regarding this explosion during the Muharram procession.
