Wipro Technologies has issued its official statement on the allegations of religious harassment and attempted religious conversion made by a former employee at its Pune office. The company said it follows a “zero-tolerance” policy towards misconduct and has been fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities investigating the matter.
The statement comes amid growing scrutiny over allegations made by a former Hindu employee of Wipro’s Hinjawadi campus, who has accused a colleague and several company officials of workplace harassment, religious discrimination and forcing her to resign after she raised complaints.
Wipro responds to allegations
In its statement, Wipro said that employee welfare and dignity remain central to the company’s values.
“At Wipro, employee welfare, dignity, and respect are paramount. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach towards any form of misconduct, discrimination, harassment, or actions that compromise an individual’s fundamental rights and freedoms.”
The company further stated that it has fully cooperated with Pune Police and has shared all relevant information sought during the investigation.
“We have been fully cooperating with the authorities in this matter and have provided all relevant documents and information with the Pune Police. As the matter is currently under investigation, we cannot comment on the specifics of the case.”
The company did not address the individual allegations raised by the complainant, citing the ongoing investigation.
Complaint filed at Hinjawadi police station
The controversy erupted after former Wipro employee approached the Hinjawadi Police Station in Pune with a detailed complaint alleging workplace harassment and religious pressure during her employment at the company’s Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park campus.
The victim, a qualified engineer who worked as a Project Manager at Wipro from May 2019 until August 2025, claims that a colleague, Shahina Rafik, subjected her to persistent personal interference and repeatedly attempted to persuade her to embrace Islam.
The allegations were publicly disclosed during a press conference organised in Pune by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), attended by the complainant, her legal representatives and members of the organisation.
Allegations against colleague Shahina Rafik
According to the complaint, Shahina Rafik initially interacted with the victim on professional matters as part of a Dubai-based project. However, the victim alleges that Shahina gradually began contacting her on her personal phone and engaging in conversations unrelated to work.
The complainant claims that Shahina asked intrusive questions about her personal life and made repeated suggestions that she should establish relationships with Muslim men.
According to the complaint, Shahina told her, “Those Sheikh people have many contacts. If you accept the Muslim religion, I will get you married to one of them. You will remain very happy and earn a lot.”
The victim also alleges that she was encouraged to move to Dubai and was told that converting to Islam would improve her lifestyle and career prospects.
She further claims that despite making it clear that she was uncomfortable with such conversations, the conduct continued for an extended period.
Senior officials named in complaint
The former employee alleges that she raised the issue before senior company officials, including Dubai project head Ram Kumar.
According to the complaint, Ram Kumar instructed Account Delivery Head Wasim Muskar and Operations Head Hemant Patole to inquire into the matter. However, the woman alleges that no meaningful action followed.
The complaint also names Wasim Muskar and Zeeshan Ahmed, alleging that her concerns were not adequately addressed despite repeated representations.
She further alleges that after a disagreement involving remarks made during an internal discussion on employee identification procedures, her project responsibilities were removed and she was placed on the bench.
She has also named Prashant Qureshi, Jeevan Ahmed and Krishna Kumari, alleging that they pressured her to resign and warned that refusal could affect her future employment prospects.
Allegation of forced resignation
One of the central allegations concerns the circumstances surrounding the victim’s departure from the company.
According to her complaint, she was called into a Microsoft Teams meeting in August 2025 and compelled to submit her resignation without being given a fair opportunity to present her case.
Her lawyer, Advocate Vivek Bhosale, has argued that the resignation was obtained under coercion and violated principles of natural justice.
The former employee has also served a legal notice on Wipro seeking multiple forms of relief.
Among her demands are:
1. Reinstatement with continuity of service
2. Cancellation of the resignation
3. Back wages
4. Compensation of ₹50 lakh for alleged mental trauma and reputational damage
5. A formal written apology
6. Action against individuals named in the complaint
She has reportedly given the company 15 days to respond, failing which she intends to pursue civil, criminal and labour court remedies.
In her police complaint, she has requested that authorities direct Wipro and telecom service providers to preserve digital evidence, including: WhatsApp conversations, Call records, Email communications and other electronic records.
She has also sought recording of statements from Ram Kumar, Wasim Muskar, Hemant Patole and other employees connected to the matter.
Additionally, she has requested an independent inquiry into why the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) under the POSH Act allegedly did not conduct an investigation into her grievances.
What is the Wipro Pune Case?
The allegations surfaced months after the TCS Nashik controversy, which led to multiple FIRs and an SIT investigation into claims of workplace exploitation, religious conversion attempts and misconduct at a BPO unit in Maharashtra.
In the Wipro case, the former employee alleges that she faced sustained pressure to abandon her Hindu faith, enter relationships with Muslim men and relocate abroad. She further claims that when she resisted and complained internally, she was sidelined, subjected to disciplinary action and eventually forced to resign.
At present, the allegations remain under police scrutiny. Wipro has stated that it is cooperating fully with investigators while maintaining its commitment to a workplace free from harassment, discrimination and misconduct.
