The incident occurred in Nasrapur village of Bhor taluka of Pune district, where the child had been staying with her grandmother during summer vacation. According to the FIR filed on May 2, the girl’s mother, employed at a private firm, and her father, a Hindu priest, had sent both daughters to the village, where the younger sibling (3-year-old) had already been living for the past two months. The elder one (4-year-old) joined his sister at the grandmother’s house ten days ago when her summer vacations at school began.
On May 1, at around 6:15 pm, the parents of the girls received a call from the grandmother’s neighbour informing them that the elder child had gone missing. A search operation was immediately launched by locals. The parents rushed to the village, but by the time they arrived around 8 pm, the search had ended in horror.
The child’s body was recovered from a cowshed, concealed under a heap of cow dung. Preliminary findings indicated sexual assault, followed by a brutal killing. Police noted visible injuries consistent with a violent attack.

CCTV footage from nearby houses helped police identify the suspect and now accused whose name is Bhimrao Kamble, a 65-year-old resident of the same locality. He was subsequently arrested. Police sources confirmed that he had a prior record under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), and was out on bail at the time of the crime.
The revelation has intensified public anger, with villagers blocking the Satara–Pune highway and staging protests demanding stringent punishment. Locals also questioned how an individual with a known history of offences against minors was able to move freely without monitoring.
The police have registered a case and initiated further investigation, including forensic analysis and evidence collection. Officials say efforts are underway to ensure a watertight chargesheet.
The case has once again brought into focus systemic concerns around bail for repeat offenders in crimes against children, and the lack of mechanisms to track or restrict their movement after release.
