Corporate Jihad at TCS: The Nashik conversion case emerges as a new crisis for non-muslims

Until now, you may have heard of Love Jihad, Land Jihad, Population Jihad, Conversion Jihad, Spit Jihad, and Drug Jihad; however, the new form of Islamic Jihad that has now emerged as a crisis for non-Muslims is "Corporate Jihad"

Each form of Jihad possesses its own distinct modus operandi. For instance, in Love Jihad, Muslim men ensnare Hindu and other non-Muslim women in a web of romance, often by concealing their true identities or offering inducements with the ultimate aim of marrying them and orchestrating their religious conversion. In Land Jihad, the objective involves the illegal encroachment on land belonging to the government or other communities, often by subsequently establishing religious structures there.

Population Jihad refers to a calculated conspiracy to alter the demographic landscape of a region by rapidly inflating one’s own population numbers; once a demographic majority is established within a specific area, the persecution of the now-minority indigenous population begins. Conversion Jihad entails compelling individuals to convert to Islam either through coercion or by offering material inducements. Spit Jihad involves the sale of food items that have been deliberately contaminated with saliva or otherwise rendered impure- acts which are frequently captured in videos that subsequently go viral on social media. Drug Jihad has historically been recognised as a tactic aimed at debilitating the youth by ensnaring them in the clutches of drug addiction; however, the crisis that now looms before us is that of Corporate Jihad.

A case involving allegations of religious conversion and harassment which has surfaced in the city of Nashik, Maharashtra, has currently become a subject of intense nationwide discourse. This particular case centres on a multinational IT firm, where several female employees have levelled grave allegations- including sexual exploitation, religious harassment, and being subjected to coercive pressure to convert to another faith against their Muslim colleagues.

This matter came to light when sudden changes were observed in the behaviour and lifestyles of several female employees working at the company. According to their colleagues, these women made significant alterations to their attire and way of living. They began distancing themselves from traditional Hindu customs, started observing the fasts during Ramzan, and abandoned their former habits. Furthermore, they withdrew from their friends and social circles, and changes became apparent in their personal lives.

Initially, these women remained silent out of fear, social pressure, and the apprehension of losing their jobs; however, as time passed and the situation became unbearable, nine female employees and one male employee filed a complaint with the police. It was only after this step that the matter came to the public’s attention.

Serious Allegations: Exploitation and Pressure for Religious Conversion

The victimised employees allege that certain senior staff members, specifically team leaders and the HR manager, were abusing their positions to persistently attempt to convert them to Islam. Employees were enticed with promises of career advancement, promotions, and better professional opportunities. Subsequently, they were subjected to psychological manipulation, and religious pressure was gradually exerted upon them. Some victims even reported being coerced into consuming beef and pressured to perform “Namaz” (Islamic prayers) within the office premises. Additionally, their Hindu religious beliefs and symbols were ridiculed, and deliberate attempts were made to undermine their faith.

It also emerged during the investigation that any employee who objected or attempted to distance themselves from the situation was subjected to intimidation. In some instances, attempts were even made to contact their family members. Following the filing of the complaint, the police decided to conduct an in-depth investigation into the matter. According to the police, the operation was conducted in a highly organised manner, making the collection of evidence particularly challenging. To address this, female police officers were sent into the company undercover. Operating from within, they monitored the accused’s activities and gathered crucial evidence. They specifically documented the accused’s behaviour and the manner in which they interacted with the female employees.

During the investigation, the police scoured CCTV footage from approximately 40 locations. These visuals revealed numerous instances of inappropriate behaviour, molestation, and obscene acts committed by the accused against female employees. Furthermore, the police established a rapport with the victims and earned their trust, enabling them to speak out freely. Following this, swift action was taken, leading to the arrest of seven accused individuals. Among them are six team leaders from the company and one HR manager. All of them face grave charges, including sexual exploitation, mental harassment, issuing threats, and pressuring employees to convert their religion.

Exploitation Under the Guise of “Weekend Trips”

The investigation uncovered another shocking facet of the case. It is alleged that employees were taken to large resorts or water parks under the pretext of “weekend trips.” Once there, they were subjected to inappropriate behaviour and placed under immense pressure. This entire process was executed in a meticulously planned manner, designed to mentally break down the victims. The young Hindu female victims, corroborating their statements with evidence, revealed that they had lodged complaints with the HR department on multiple occasions over the past four years; however, their grievances were ignored every single time.

Viewed in its entirety, this entire episode presents a broader picture of a serious and alarming “Islamic Jihadi” trend festering within the workplace- an environment where the dignity of women, their personal liberty, and their religious faith have all been simultaneously challenged and placed under threat. In connection with this case, a total of 9 FIRs have been registered against 6 key accused: Danish Sheikh, Tausif Attar, Raza Memon, Shahrukh Qureshi, Shafi Sheikh, and Asif Ansari. This list includes one team leader and a representative from the HR department. The majority of the women who filed complaints fall within the 18-to-25 age group, a fact that renders this entire sequence of events even more grave.

Upon peeling back the layers of this case, it emerges that in certain instances, Raza Memon and Shahrukh Qureshi are accused of engaging in obscene conversations with a victim, making objectionable comments regarding her physique, and persistently intruding into her private life despite repeated objections. It is further alleged that they kept her under surveillance and subjected her to continuous mental and physical harassment.

On the other hand, the allegations involving Tausif Attar and Danish Sheikh appear even more grave. According to one victim, Tausif Attar established a physical relationship with her under the false pretext of marriage, while Danish Sheikh engaged in obscene acts within the workplace. Both individuals are frequently accused of making derogatory remarks about Hindu deities and deliberately offending religious sentiments. Nida Khan’s name has also surfaced in one instance in which a complaint regarding religious insult has been lodged.

Several complaints have also been filed against Shafi Sheikh and Asif Ansari. Both men made lewd comments regarding women’s bodies, subjected them to lecherous gazes, and attempted to touch them inappropriately. In some instances, it was revealed that even within formal settings—such as meetings- Shafi Sheikh violated norms of decency, engaging in humiliating behaviour and obscene acts.

Another serious dimension of this case concerns incidents where several accused individuals, including Tausif Attar, Raza Memon, Shahrukh Qureshi, and Danish Sheikh, face collective allegations of exerting religious pressure. The victims allege that they were forcibly compelled to offer “Namaz” (prayers) and pressured to consume non-vegetarian food as a means to coerce them into religious conversion. Furthermore, by making derogatory remarks about deities, they created a hostile, fear-filled atmosphere in the workplace.

In certain instances, the accused’s conduct appears organised. For instance, Asif Ansari, Shahrukh Qureshi, Raza Memon, Tausif Attar, and Shafi Sheikh stand accused of stalking a victim, making obscene remarks, and touching her with malicious intent. Collectively, they have also been charged with vitiating the atmosphere by using abusive language against the victim’s religion.

Furthermore, in some instances, the victims’ private lives were targeted. Tausif Attar is alleged to have made offensive remarks regarding personal matters, such as a woman’s marital life and her inability to conceive children and attempted to forcibly establish intimacy. Meanwhile, Raza Memon and Shafi Sheikh are accused of attempting to forcibly establish intimacy with another victim, making lewd comments about her body, and engaging in inappropriate behaviour.

Another disturbing aspect that emerged during this entire sequence of events is that, despite complaints, no timely or effective action was taken at the company level. This emboldened the accused, leading to a recurrence of such incidents and subjecting the victims to even greater mental and social distress.

Currently, the police have arrested seven accused individuals, including a woman associated with the HR department. The entire case is being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by ACP (Crime) Sandeep Mitke. Additionally, the police have appealed to other potential victims to come forward and have released a WhatsApp number (9923323311) for contact purposes. The police anticipate that at least 50 or more victims will come forward.

The Maharashtra government has stated that a fair and thorough investigation into the matter will be conducted, and the guilty will be handed down severe punishment. Meanwhile, some political leaders have reacted sharply to this incident. It has even been linked to terms such as “Corporate Jihad,” and apprehensions are being raised regarding the existence of a larger network or conspiracy behind it.
