The death of Chandrashekhar, popularly known as ‘Farsa Wale Baba’, triggered widespread unrest in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, as protests, stone pelting and clashes with police erupted along the busy Delhi-Agra Highway.
Within hours of the news spreading, large groups of locals and fellow Gau Rakshaks gathered in the Chhata area, blocking the highway and bringing traffic to a complete halt. The blockade caused long snarls and severe inconvenience to commuters for several hours.
According to initial reports, Chandrashekhar was chasing a truck on his motorcycle after suspecting it of carrying smuggled cattle. During the pursuit, another vehicle allegedly rammed into him, leading to his death on the spot.
However, police have urged caution. Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar stated that preliminary findings suggest the incident may have been an accident rather than a targeted act.
“The truck stopped by him was carrying grocery goods, and the vehicle that collided with him was loaded with wire. Dense fog appears to have caused the accident. Further action is ongoing,” he said, adding that claims of cattle smuggling are yet to be confirmed.
As emotions ran high, protests escalated into clashes, with reports of stone pelting and confrontation between demonstrators and police personnel. Authorities were deployed to control the situation and restore normalcy.
The highway blockade, which began early in the morning, paralysed traffic movement on one of the busiest stretches connecting Delhi and Agra, highlighting the intensity of the reaction to Chandrashekhar’s death.
Chandrashekhar, widely known as ‘Farsa Wale Baba’, was a prominent Gau Rakshak in the Braj region and had built a strong local following.
1. He was known for his active involvement in cow protection efforts across the region
2. Often seen carrying a ‘farsa’ (axe), which became his identity
3. Regarded by supporters as both a religious figure and an activist
4. Based in Mathura’s Anjanok area
His image as a fearless protector of cattle earned him recognition among local groups, making his death a deeply emotional issue for many supporters.
The incident has once again brought attention to the volatile nature of issues related to cattle protection and vigilantism in parts of North India. While investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing, the reaction on the ground reflects how quickly such incidents can escalate into law-and-order challenges.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging restraint and appealing to the public to avoid spreading unverified information.
Police officials have confirmed that a detailed probe is underway to establish the exact sequence of events leading to Chandrashekhar’s death. Meanwhile, efforts are being made to ensure peace in the area and prevent further escalation.
The coming days are expected to be crucial as investigators piece together evidence and address the concerns raised by the protesting groups.
