Political parties are gearing up and stitching alliance arithmetic with allies in Tamil Nadu, which is going to polls on April 23, amidst reports of distribution of freebies and seizure of the same by the ECI team. Dy CM Udhayanidhi raked up a fresh controversy by saying Islam and Dravidian ideologies are the same.
Udhayanidhi, who openly said he and his wife are Christians and gave a call to eradicate Sanatana like dengue and malaria, and faced legal cases all over Bharat, again made a statement comparing his party’s ideologies with Islam. Till today, critics say, none knew what Dravidian ideology is. But he compared it with Islam. So far, none from the religion have challenged or questioned his remarks. Addressing a DMK Minorities Welfare Rights Wing Iftar function on the March 16, he made these remarks.

Quoting ANI reports, it claimed on Monday that the Dravidian ideology practised by his party, the DMK, and the principles of Islam are “fundamentally the same”, as both teach “equality, love, and generosity”. “The religion that teaches equality, love, and generosity is our Islam. The principles of Dravidian ideology and the principles of Islam are fundamentally the same. No conspiracies can break the relationship between the ruling DMK and the Muslim community.”
Udhayanidhi Stalin said no “conspiracies” can break the relationship between the ruling DMK and the Muslim community. He made mention of the DMK government’s largesse to Muslims, listing what MK Stalin has done, including the laying of a foundation stone to build the Tamil Nadu Haj House at a cost of Rs 39 crore.
While speaking at a Christmas celebration in Madurai on December 19, 2025, “Christian principles are essentially the same as DMK principles,” Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said, asserting that both Christianity and the Dravidian movement are rooted in love, compassion, equality, and humanitarianism, and place human dignity at their core.
The next day, CM M. K. Stalin, speaking at a Manitha Neya Christmas event organised by the Christian Goodwill Movement at Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli, said the Dravidian Model government functioned as a testament to Jesus Christ’s idea of “everything for everyone, regardless of which religion one belongs to”. Referring to religious provocations, he cited a Biblical verse, saying, “Be wary, be careful, let no one deceive you.”
DMK president and CM Stalin, and his son, who is Dy CM, make such remarks keeping an eye on their vote bank. It is nothing new for people in Tamil Nadu who watch them. DMK has deliberately prevented and refused to honour HC orders on lighting deepam atop Thiruparankundram.
It is still fighting cases using temple funds to hire top lawyers to represent it in the HC and SC. DMK, according to Hindu Munnani, is destroying Hindu temples, extending largesse to minority communities, and tacitly supporting religious conversions.
In poll-bound Tamil Nadu, we can expect such remarks from DMK, which is facing a stiff fight from the opposition. It has to overcome a strong anti-incumbency wave. It has been extending freebies to voters and keeping minorities in good humour with a hope to romp home again.
