Telangana local body elections 2026: BJP secures first-ever victory in Karimnagar municipal corporation

After the Telangana municipal election results, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar addressed the media along with former Karimnagar Mayor Sunil Rao and local BJP leaders, stating that the BJP has won the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation for the first time.

He described the victory as a major milestone and credited party workers and voters for delivering the mandate. He said BJP cadre worked with a clear goal and took the Centre’s development agenda under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people, under the guidance of BJP national president Nitin Nabin and state president Ramchander Rao.

Bandi Sanjay said the verdict was a response to critics who claimed that Karimnagar received no support or funds from the Centre. He stated that around ₹1,500 crore had been spent by the Modi government on the city’s development and said voters backed the BJP after assessing the record of different parties. He added that the party would demonstrate visible development in the coming five years.

He outlined his own political journey, calling himself an ordinary party worker who rose through organisational responsibilities to become state president, national general secretary and Union Minister, and said the result was emotionally significant for him.

The Union Minister alleged that rival parties including Congress, BRS and AIMIM attempted inducements and political pressure during the elections, including efforts to influence voters and candidates, but said these attempts did not succeed. He said the electorate instead chose the BJP based on trust in the Prime Minister and expectation of continued central support.

According to him, the BJP secured 30 seats, and some candidates who could not be officially allotted tickets earlier still won while backing the party. He said a few Independents and winners from other parties had indicated support to the BJP and would be taken along with a development-focused approach.

He also claimed that AIMIM’s seat share dropped compared to the previous election and said voters had taken note of alignments among rival parties. He said BJP workers had faced political attacks in the past but continued their efforts, and the result reflected their persistence.

Expressing confidence about future civic contests, he said the party would aim to replicate the Karimnagar performance in Hyderabad corporations. He thanked BJP workers and the people of Karimnagar for their support and said the new corporation leadership would prioritise clean administration, proper use of central funds, and delivery of services closer to citizens.
