The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs has sanctioned 11 Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museums (TFFMs) in 10 States to honour and promote awareness of tribal contributions to India’s freedom struggle, the Ministry informed the Rajya Sabha today (February 4)
Replying to a question, Minister of State Drugadas Uikey said the projects are being supported under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme “Support to Tribal Research Institute” and “Proviso to Article 275(1)”.
The respective state governments are responsible for land allocation, preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) and execution of construction works.
The sanctioned museums span from Jharkhand to Goa, covering locations including Ranchi, Hyderabad, Nava Raipur and Aizawl. While some facilities have already been inaugurated, others are at various stages of completion or DPR preparation.
State-wise sanctioned Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museums
Jharkhand
The Birsa Munda Memorial Freedom Fighter Museum at Ranchi was sanctioned during 2017–18 with an approved project cost of ₹34.22 crore. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs committed ₹25 crore towards the project and the entire amount has been released. The museum was inaugurated on 15 November 2021.
Madhya Pradesh
The Badal Bhoi State Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Chhindwara was sanctioned in 2017–18 at a cost of ₹40.69 crore, with the Ministry contributing ₹25.69 crore, which has been fully released.
Another project in the State, the Raja Shankar Shah and Kunwar Raghunath Shah Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Jabalpur, was sanctioned in 2019–20 with an approved cost of ₹14.39 crore. The Ministry’s full share was approved, of which ₹11.36 crore has been released so far.
Chhattisgarh
The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Memorial and Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Nava Raipur was sanctioned in 2017–18 with a project cost of ₹53.13 crore. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs contributed ₹42.47 crore, which has been fully released. The museum was inaugurated on 1 November 2025.
Mizoram
The Ropuiliani Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Kelsih in Aizawl district was sanctioned in 2019–20 with an approved project cost of ₹25.36 crore. The Ministry has released the entire sanctioned amount. The project is proposed to be completed by mid-2026.
Andhra Pradesh
The Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Lambasingi in Alluri Sitharama Raju district was sanctioned during 2017–18 with a total project cost of ₹45 crore. The Ministry approved a contribution of ₹25 crore, of which ₹11 crore has been released.
Telangana
The Ramji Gond Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum in Hyderabad was sanctioned in 2018–19 with an approved project cost of ₹34 crore. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs approved ₹25 crore towards the project and has released ₹15.24 crore to date.
Kerala
The Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Suganthgiri in Wayanad district was sanctioned in 2017–18 with a project cost of ₹16.66 crore. The Ministry’s contribution of ₹15 crore was approved, while ₹7.19 crore has been released so far. The museum is proposed to be completed by the end of 2026.
Gujarat
The Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Rajpipla in Narmada district was sanctioned in 2017–18 with a total project cost of ₹257.94 crore. The Ministry approved ₹50 crore as its share, and the full amount has been released.
Goa
The Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Ponda was sanctioned in 2020–21 with an approved cost of ₹24.96 crore. The Ministry sanctioned ₹15 crore, of which ₹1.06 crore has been released. The DPR has been finalised and work orders have been issued.
Manipur
The Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Luangkao in Tamenglong district was sanctioned in 2018–19 with a project cost of ₹51.38 crore. The Ministry approved a contribution of ₹25 crore, while ₹1 crore has been released. The project is currently at the DPR preparation stage.
