Telangana: New Zealand Maori tribe, British Dy High Commissioner offer prayers at Medaram Sammakka Jatara

Prominent dignitaries, foreign representatives, and members of the Māori tribe from New Zealand have offered prayers, highlighting the global resonance of the deep faith and tradition

As the Medaram Sammakka–Saralamma Maha Jatara draws to a close on January 31, it is witnessing an overwhelming surge of devotees, reaffirming its stature as one of the largest tribal religious congregations in the world. Rooted in deep faith and age-old traditions, the sacred gathering continues in a serene and well-organised manner amid lakhs of devotees arriving from across Telangana and other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, several prominent personalities visited Medaram and offered prayers to Sammakka and Saralamma.

Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma along with Sudha Dev Varma visited on Friday, offered prayers and traditional sarees to dieties.

Former Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Director General of Police Shri Shivdhar Reddy were among the prominent persons who offered prayers.

British Gareth Wynn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner to Telangana & Andhra Pradesh visited Medaram and offered his prayers and participate in the Tulabharam, weighed in equalant to jiggery, a tradition of the jatara.

On January 29, members of the Māori tribe who arrived from New Zealand came to Medaram and offered prayers to Sammakka–Saralamma. They have also performed the trational Haka dance at the temple premises.

At the Medaram Sammakka–Saralamma Maha Jatara, bamboo poles are worshipped as deities, earthen platforms serve as sanctums, turmeric and vermilion replace precious ornaments, jaggery symbolises pure gold, rice is offered as consecrated food, and simple pieces of saree and blouse cloth become ceremonial offerings to the Mothers.
