New Delhi: CCTV footage has emerged capturing the exact moment Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Baramati airport. The incident occurred at around 8:46 am on Wednesday, when residents and people near the airport reported hearing a loud explosion and saw a fireball in the sky.
It was only a few minutes later that it became clear a plane had crashed in the early hours of the morning. Authorities subsequently confirmed that Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others on board died at the crash site. Ajit Pawar, 66, died in the crash, with highway camera footage capturing the moment his Learjet 45 exploded. The private jet, which departed Mumbai at 8:10 am, went down while attempting to land.
The crash, which claimed five lives, is now under investigation, with aviation authorities examining the circumstances and cause of the accident.

Videos from the crash site showed fire, thick smoke, and the damaged remains of the plane. Emergency workers and shocked local residents gathered at the spot to help and understand what had happened. Soon after, officials confirmed that all five people on board had died.

Data from Flightradar24 shows that the aircraft disappeared from radar at 8:45 am while attempting a second landing. An eyewitness said the plane crashed about 100 feet short of the runway.

The eyewitness, struggling to find words, said the loss of Ajit Pawar had deeply affected the local community. “Ajit Pawar was on board. This is very painful for us. I can’t describe it in words,” the witness said.
Condolences poured in from across the country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing deep shock over Pawar’s death. Describing him as a grassroots leader with a strong understanding of administration, the Prime Minister said Pawar’s untimely demise was “very shocking and saddening.”
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a formal investigation into the crash to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officials are expected to examine flight data, weather conditions, and technical factors as Maharashtra mourns the loss of one of its most influential political figures.
