On the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale hoisted the national flag at Keshav Kunj in New Delhi and addressed a gathering of swayamsevaks and citizens, calling upon the nation to reaffirm its commitment to the Constitution, national unity and the protection of India’s borders.
Extending heartfelt Republic Day greetings to the people of the country, Hosabale emphasised that safeguarding the Constitution, preserving India’s unity and integrity, and ensuring the security of its borders constitute the nation’s highest collective responsibility. He urged citizens to pledge in their personal lives to uphold India’s eternal spiritual values, civic duties and rashtra dharma.
Addressing the gathering, the RSS Sarkaryavah said that the Constitution of India is not merely a legal document but a living expression of the nation’s civilisational ethos rooted in truth and righteousness. “The protection of our Constitution, the unity of the nation and the security of our borders is our supreme national duty,” he said, stressing that these responsibilities must guide the conduct of every citizen.
Highlighting the significance of the day, Hosabale noted that this year, Republic Day coincided with the sacred occasion of Bhishma Ashtami, making it even more special. Drawing inspiration from the life of Bhishma Pitamah of the Mahabharata, he said Bhishma’s teachings on raj dharma, praja dharma and duty towards the nation remain relevant even today. He underlined that a life based on character, discipline and unwavering commitment to duty represents true praja dharma, while the protection of the virtuous and the restraint of destructive forces form the core of raj dharma.
Referring to the national symbols, Hosabale spoke about the tricolour, the Ashoka Chakra and India’s national mottos, stating that the soul of India is founded on satya (truth) and dharma. He described “Satyameva Jayate” and “Yato Dharmastato Jayaḥ” as the guiding principles of India’s governance, justice system and democratic framework. According to him, the protection of the Constitution, the national flag and India’s unity all draw their strength from these timeless values.
Hosabale further said that the principles articulated by Bhishma Pitamah reflect India’s Sanatan tradition, which continues to be relevant in the modern era and offers a guiding example to the world. He emphasised that the preservation of the Republic requires a spirit of affection, empathy and social harmony, along with a deep sense of care and service for the weaker sections of society.
Calling for continuous self-effort and dedication, the RSS Sarkaryavah said that the all-round development of life in every field and dimension demands constant endeavour at every moment. He noted that RSS swayamsevaks have pursued this discipline of selfless service for nearly a century, dedicating themselves to the protection of the Republic, service to society and advancing with inspiration drawn from rashtra dharma.
Concluding his address, Hosabale urged everyone to not only remember these ideals on ceremonial occasions but to remain consistently active, alert and committed in fulfilling their duties towards the nation. He expressed hope that divine blessings and the grace of Bharat Mata would continue to guide the collective efforts of the people in safeguarding India’s Republic and national values.
