Following the BJP’s victory in the Tiruvananthapuram local body elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Kerala for the first time, with the state leadership projecting the visit as a moment of political guidance and momentum-building ahead of the upcoming elections. The Prime Minister’s tour to Kerala on January 23 is being viewed as a key intervention at a time when the party is gearing up to consolidate its gains and outline its roadmap for governance in the state.
BJP Keralam State General Secretary Anoop Antony Joseph stated, on January 20, that the BJP is a party that always fulfils its promises. He told media persons that the Prime Minister will visit Tiruvananthapuram on January 23, 2026.
Anoop Antony said that during the recently concluded Local Self-Government Institutions election campaign, the BJP had promised that the Prime Minister would release a blueprint for development within 45 days from the date of the swearing-in of the BJP’s Mayor in Tiruvananthapuram. However, the Prime Minister is now visiting in less than 30 days.

BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar had stated that Vikasit Bharat can only be achieved through Vikasit Kerala, and that it should be made a reality. He said the Central Government always supports the BJP’s endeavours in the state, and that the Prime Minister’s imminent arrival is proof of his care and concern for Kerala. The Prime Minister is expected to unveil not only the blueprint of Vikasit Keralam, but also that of Surakshita Keralam.
Anoop Antony said Kerala is infested by radicalism and terrorism, and alleged that the Communists and the Congress have a nexus with Jamaat-e-Islami and the Popular Front of India. He said the BJP will raise this issue before the people of Kerala and added that all faiths will receive protection. The Prime Minister’s programme, he said, will be a powerful boost to party workers in the state, with these three points forming the main election planks of the BJP. Organisers expect around 25,000 people to attend the Prime Minister’s programme.
The BJP came to power in the Tiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation for the first time in history, ending 45 years of Left rule. As soon as Adv. V. V. Rajesh took charge as the first BJP Mayor of the capital city, he made it clear that his administration would implement what was promised prior to the elections. He convened a staff meeting of the Corporation and told employees that they cannot leave the office after signing the attendance register to engage in union activities. He said that the ruling councillors and the Mayor work for 18 hours a day and expects the staff to work hard for the people. He warned that corruption would not be tolerated.
It is now believed that Prime Minister Modi’s arrival will bring significant changes to Kerala’s political arena, as Assembly elections are due in April this year. Modi has highlighted the party’s victory in Tiruvananthapuram in his recent speeches in Bengal, Assam, and Delhi. Therefore, expectations are high for major announcements related to Vikasit Keralam during the Prime Minister’s visit to Tiruvananthapuram.
