RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on December 27 said that the government appealed to Maoists to abandon the language of violence and gunfire and join the mainstream of development.
“We have repeatedly appealed to the Maoists to abandon the language of violence and gunfire and join the mainstream of development. The government will treat them fairly, and the results are already evident. We have formulated a good rehabilitation policy, and more than two thousand Maoists have surrendered, the government is treating them well,” he said.
“We are providing them with skills training. We are also giving them financial assistance of Rs 10,000 every month, and our new rehabilitation policy includes provisions for providing land for farming. There is also a provision for providing land to build houses in urban areas. In this way, the government is concerned about its future and is working towards its well-being,” added CM Sai.
The anti-Maoist campaign has gained momentum in the state in the past two years, with security forces neutralising around 500 Maoists, including top commanders, during operations.
With neutralisation of top Maoist commanders like Nambala Kesav Rao alias Basavraju, Madvi Hidma, Ramchandra Reddy, Ganesh Uikey and laying down of arms by other senior cadres, including polit-bureau member Bhupati, central committee members Rupesh and Ramdher, the outlawed group is in the midst of a significant leadership crunch.
As per reports, counter-insurgency campaign targeting remaining Maoist leaders and other active cadres is likely to intensify further after January 2026, with the government eyeing the complete elimination of red terror from Bharat by March 2026. According to the Union Government, the geographical spread of Maoist insurgency in Bharat has fallen from hundreds of districts before 2014 to only 11 in 2025.
