In a remarkable and awe-inspiring incident near the Bada Ramdwara Ashram in Kota, a nearly four-foot-tall murti of Bhagwan Hanuman was discovered inside the trunk of a tree estimated to be 300 to 400 years old. The discovery, made during routine cleaning and removal of the tree, has drawn large crowds of devotees, with locals considering the event both miraculous and highly auspicious.

The incident unfolded on December 7 when workers began clearing the ashram premises, which house the centuries-old Bada Ramdwara Ashram, a site associated with learned pandits for generations. The tree in question had long been dry, leaving only its massive trunk standing on the ashram grounds. During the cleaning process, the upper portion of the trunk was being burned, as part of the routine removal, when an unexpected sight stunned everyone present. A figure resembling a statue appeared inside the burning trunk, prompting workers to immediately extinguish the fire and carefully cut away the wood to avoid damaging the hidden artefact.

As the trunk was gradually removed, the murti’s full form became visible, a beautifully carved representation of Bhagwan Hanuman, standing approximately 3.5 to 4 feet tall. Observers believe that the statue might be even larger, as its lower portion remains encased within the tree. The revelation of the murti instantly attracted a large crowd of devotees who began offering prayers, flowers, and garlands, while chanting the Hanuman Chalisa in devotion and reverence.

Former ward councillor Dhirendra Chaudhary provided context to the discovery, noting that the ashram itself is centuries old and has been home to many ancient trees and structures. “In earlier times, pandit would often place important murtis or sacred symbols inside trees or hidden locations to protect them during natural calamities, invasions, or periods of unrest,” he explained. According to local elders, this particular tree was considered special for its religious and spiritual significance, and the discovery of the murti adds a new chapter to the history of the region.

The incident quickly captured the attention of authorities. The Kishorpura police station, members of the Sadhu-Sant Samaj, and a team from the Archaeological Department arrived at the scene to ensure crowd control and safeguard the statue. The Archaeological Department has launched an investigation to determine the murti’s age, historical importance, and the circumstances under which it was placed inside the tree. Officials aim to carefully remove the remaining portion of the statue without causing any damage, ensuring its preservation for historical and religious study.

Devotees have flocked to the ashram in large numbers since the news spread. Many believe that the discovery is a divine blessing and a sign of Bhagwan Hanuman’s presence. The atmosphere around the ashram has become deeply devotional, with people offering prayers, lighting incense, and celebrating the miraculous event. Locals see this as an extraordinary moment that reinforces faith and devotion, while historians and archaeologists are keen to uncover the deeper historical significance of the murti.

This discovery in Kota has captured the imagination and faith of thousands, highlighting the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the region. The combination of history, devotion, and mystery surrounding the hidden Hanuman murti has created a sense of wonder and reverence, with locals and visitors alike calling it a once-in-a-lifetime event. As investigations continue, the statue is likely to become an important religious and cultural landmark, symbolising both the city’s spiritual legacy and the enduring faith of its people.
