From December 4 to 11, 2025, schools across India will come alive with the vibrant spirit of Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav, a festival dedicated to celebrating the nation’s rich linguistic heritage. Aligned with the transformative vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this festival honours the legacy of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, the revered Tamil poet, while promoting multilingual learning, cultural unity, and national integration under the inspiring theme, “Many Languages, One Emotion.”

Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav is held in commemoration of Subramania Bharati, a visionary poet, social reformer, and freedom fighter whose works transcended linguistic and cultural boundaries. Bharati’s poetry, imbued with themes of unity, freedom, and human dignity, continues to inspire generations. By celebrating his contributions, the festival underscores the power of language to unite diverse communities and evoke shared human emotions.

Aligning with NEP 2020

The National Education Policy 2020 emphasises multilingualism as a cornerstone of education, recognising its role in preserving India’s linguistic diversity while fostering cognitive, cultural, and emotional growth. Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav brings this vision to life by providing students with opportunities to engage with multiple Indian languages, thereby promoting inclusivity, mutual respect, and a deeper appreciation for India’s cultural mosaic.

The festival resonates with the NEP’s three-language formula, encouraging students to explore and celebrate languages beyond their mother tongue. This approach not only enhances linguistic skills but also strengthens national integration by bridging regional and cultural divides.

“Many Languages, One Emotion”

The theme of Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav 2025, “Many Languages, One Emotion,” beautifully captures the essence of India’s linguistic diversity. Despite the multitude of languages spoken across the country, from Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali to Assamese, Kannada, and beyond, the universal emotions of love, unity, and pride bind all communities together. Through this theme, students are encouraged to explore how different languages express shared human experiences, fostering empathy, understanding, and connection among young learners.

Exciting activities across schools

Schools nationwide will host a variety of interactive and creative activities designed to spark enthusiasm for languages and deepen appreciation for India’s linguistic heritage. Highlights of the week-long festival include:

Promoting cultural unity

The festival creates an environment where every language is respected, every voice is heard, and every student experiences the joy of cultural exchange and empathy, echoing Subramania Bharati’s vision of a united, inclusive, and multilingual India.
