Guwahati: Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg’s mysterious death in Singapore was not an accident but a ‘plain and simple murder’, said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. The beloved singer of Assam died in Singapore on September 19 while swimming in sea in a mysterious condition. Assam police SIT is investigating the case and arrested 7 accused involved in the murder of the singer.
Informing the state assembly on the first day of the winter session CM Sarma said, “after the preliminary investigation by the SIT it was clear that Zubeen’s death was not a culpable homicide or criminal conspiracy, it was a plain and simple murder.” In response to an adjournment motion moved by the opposition to discuss the death of the iconic singer, CM Sarma informed the assembly that one accused directly caused Zubeen Garg’s death and others allegedly assisted him. “Four, five accused have been booked for involvement in the death and it is on record in the court that this was clearly a murder.”
The CM further informed the assembly that 7 accused have been arrested and over 252 witnesses have been examined by SIT. 29 items have been seized by the investigating team in relation with the murder of the popular singer, CM added. He also said that the SIT is preparing a watertight chargesheet to be placed before the court by 8 or 10 December. He alleged that the Congress and Left parties are trying to politicise the death of the beloved singer which is not acceptable. “If you really want justice for Zubeen, don’t doubt the SIT and demoralise them until they submit the chargesheet in the court.,” CM Sarma said.
Northeast Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Shidharth Sharma, his co-singer Amrit Prabha Mahanta, his cousin and Assam police DSP Sandeepan Garg, band mate Shekhar Giswami and his two police security guards were arrested by the SIT in link with the mysterious death of the 52 years old singer. Over 252 people were quizzed by the investigating team so far. But all eyes are on now in the chargesheet to be filed by the SIT in court by December 8 or 10. Lakhs of followers of the popular singer are waiting to know in what circumstances he died thousands of kilometers away from Assam.
