Raipur: Chhattisgarh police on November 9 arrested two Bangladeshi nationals involved in carrying out multiple theft incident in Bastar district. The arrested individuals had reportedly entered Bharat illegally and residing in Odisha.

The arrested accused have been identified as Abul Sheikh aka Sameer alias Babu Shiekh and Bablu Chandra Das. The police have also seized stolen items worth around Rs 20 lakhs from the possession of the accused.

Both the arrested accused are original residents of Bangladesh and residing in Odisha’s Sasahandi for the past one year. The accused were involved in carrying out at least 6 theft related incidents in Bastar.

According to the details, the accused after illegally sneaking into Bharatiya territory also managed to get fabricated Bharatiya documents to conceal their identity. The police however succeeded in nabbing them on the basis of technical and human intel.

Earlier in July, Chhattisgarh police deported over two dozen Bangladeshi immigrant, residing illegally in the state. A total of 30 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by police from across the state and taken to Guwahati on a flight.

The arrested individuals were handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) on Indo-Bangladesh border for their deportation to Bangladesh.

The arrests were made after the police formed an STF in each district to track and deport illegal immigrants. The officials also issued a toll-free number urging citizens to provide information on any suspected intruder.

MHA directive to identify and deport illegal immigrants/infiltrators

It is to be noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in May this year issued directives to all the states and Union Territories (UTs) to constitute STF in every district to identify and deport illegal immigrants.

According to the directives issued, police are required to collect comprehensive details of suspected illegal immigrants/infiltrators and put them to designated holding centres.

The Home Ministry had also instructed the states and UTs to record the biometric and demographic details of detained individuals on the Foreigners Identification Portal upon confirmation of their status as illegal immigrant/infiltrator.

Several states have formed STF on lines of directives issued by the Ministry, deporting foreign nationals residing illegally in Bharat.
