Guwahati: Indian Army has launched a series of operations against Myanmar based Northeast insurgency groups.  On intervening night of October 21 and 22, in an operation launched by Indian Army and Assam Rifles units, contact was established with terrorists at MS-6 area in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh. Gunfight between the two sides lasted for several hours. Army sources said that the search conducted after first light revealed one dead body of SS Sergeant Major Iwon Axom, cadre of ULFA (I), One Rifle, One RPG round and Three Rucksacks.

The operation is still underway. Addl columns of Security Forces have also been incorporated with Police and CRPF.

Drone attack

Earlier, on the night of October 21 Indian Army launched an aerial attack on the camps of Myanmar based Northeast insurgency group camp. The attack carried out using drones on the camps of NSCN (KY) destroyed the camps and killed many militants including top commanders. The attack was targeting the self-styled Major General NSCN (KY) Piyong Konyak. Sources said that at least 5 militants were killed in the lethal attack by the Indian Army. The camp was situated in the Khangmai Basti of the India-Myanmar border. Konyak was the mastermind of the latest attacks on Indian army camps in Arunachal Pradesh. The Indian Army has not issued any statement regarding the drone attack on militant camps based in Myanmar. Earlier in July this year Indian Army conducted similar drone attacks on ULFA(I) and NSCN (KY) camps. Later ULFA (I) said that at least 5 cadres including two top commanders were killed in the drone attack.

It should be mentioned that, an Operational Group meeting was convened at Lekhapani on October 18, 2025 to review the prevailing security situation and strengthen joint coordination among security forces operating in the regions of Nagaland, South Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The meeting aimed to enhance jointness and cohesion against insurgent activities in the region. The meeting was attended by Civil and Military Authorities.

With AFSPA being extended in certain areas of the region the meeting deliberated upon the prevailing security situation. Contributing to the deliberation, DIG, AR stressed upon the need to maintain a state of high vigilance and cohesive response by security stakeholders to thwart untoward incidents.
