US Lawmaker Sydney Kamlager-Dove has hailed the courage and determination of the Indian women journalists. Days after the controversy surrounding the press meet called by the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi in New Delhi, the US Lawmaker has reiterated the zeal of the woman journalists of India who apparently voiced for their ‘right to equal participation’ and made the Afghan FM to reconvene a press meet that involved woman journalists.
“Glad to see the women journalists in India speaking truth and power and standing up for their right to equal participation”, US Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove asserted. She further added that the United States should also work towards restoring and reclaiming the rights of the Afghan women that has been derailed since the takeover of the Kabul by the Taliban government.

Not just the US lawmaker, but the renowned women fraternity across the globe is hailing the bold stand of the female journalists of India, who severely condemned the ‘male only’ press conference convened by the Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. Owing to severe backlash and criticism, the Afghan government reconvened the press meet in New Delhi that had invitation to the female journalists as well.
In a major diplomatic revamp in New Delhi-Kabul ties, the Foreign Minister of the Taliban-led Afghan government was on his maiden bilateral visit to India in the previous week. There were series of diplomatic exchanges and meetings. Afghan Foreign Minister Muttaqi also met the External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar and both held detailed discussions. India assured continued humanitarian assistance to its northwestern neighbour and ambulances were gifted to Kabul in this direction.
The Foreign Minister of Afghanistan also invited India to invest in the Rare Earth Resources(RERs) of Afghanistan and India to considered it as a potential arena of cooperation. With respect to the row surrounding the Afghan FM press meet, Government of India clarified that it was not involved in the organization of the press meet. On the other hand Kabul quoted the exclusion of woman journalists as a “technical issue” and reconvened the press meet in order to rectify its errors. The entire scenario is being appreciated across the globe for the massive scale of public activism in India and the courage of the woman journalists of the country that made the Afghan government reorganize its press meet in New Delhi where the female journalists took the front seat.
