Kerala: CPM, police nexus suspected as Thalassery Court acquits all 14 in 2010 New Mahe RSS workers’ double murder

The swayamsevaks have expressed disappointment and distress over the trial court’s verdict. It is believed that they will move the higher court. Sangh workers maintain that there was clear-cut evidence in the case, and they are therefore shocked by the judgment

In a major verdict delivered on 8 October, the Thalassery Additional Sessions Court acquitted all 14 accused in the 2010 Mahe double murder case, bringing to close a 15-year-long legal battle.

The case related to the brutal killing of RSS workers Vijith (28) and Shinoj (29), who were murdered on 28 May 2010 while returning from Mahe after a court appearance. The assailants reportedly intercepted their motorcycle at Peringad Road, near New Mahe, hurled bombs at them, and then attacked with lethal weapons, resulting in their deaths.

According to reports, the accused included 16 CPM activists. Among them, Kodi Suni, Mohammed Shafi, and K. Shinoj are already serving jail terms in connection with the murder of T.P. Chandrasekharan (4 May 2012), a rebel CPM leader in Vadakara, Kozhikode district. Other CPM members accused were T. Sreejith (36), N.K. Sunilkumar (40), T.K. Suneesh (43), K.K. Mohammed Shafi (39), T.P. Shamil (37), A.K. Shamas (35), K.K. Abbas (35), Rahul (33), Vineesh (44), P.V. Vijith (44), K. Shinoj (36), Faisal (42), Shereesh (40), and T.P. Sajir (38). C.K. Rajanikanth and Mohammed Rajeese are deceased.

The swayamsevaks have expressed disappointment and distress over the trial court’s verdict. It is believed that they will move the higher court. Sangh workers maintain that there was clear-cut evidence in the case, and they are therefore shocked by the judgment.

Sangh workers have also raised concerns about the genuineness of police records, which, they allege, play a crucial role in the judicial process.

The first RSS balidani was reportedly killed by CPM goons in April 1969. Since then, more than 300 Sangh or Bharatiya Jan Sangh/BJP workers have been killed in Kerala, most of them in Kannur district, the stronghold of the CPM.

Kerala has long witnessed a peculiar pattern in its political violence — wherever such violence occurs, the CPM remains a common factor. Whether it is CPM vs RSS/BJP/ABVP/BMS, CPM vs Congress, CPM vs Muslim League, or even CPM vs CPI (its own allies), the cycle of bloodshed continues. At times, CPM cadres have even killed their own comrades for questioning the leadership — the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder being a classic example.

The reason is simple: Communists are fascists who do not tolerate any ideology other than their own. Recently, reports surfaced of a CPM flex board in Kannur district declaring the area an “RSS-Banned Zone”, reflecting the party’s continued hostility towards ideological opponents.
