Patna: As Election Commission of India [ECI] announced the dates of much-awaited Bihar state assembly polls earlier this week, political parties in the state has all geared up for the contest.
The leaders of the National Democratic Alliance [NDA] on Friday hinted that the alliance parties have reached a consensus over the seat sharing for the polls on 243 assembly constituencies and the announcement over the same is likely to be made on this weekend.
Interacting with the media, Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] state president Dilip Jaiswal on Friday said that the seat-sharing issue has been resolved and the announcement will be made shortly.
“The seat-sharing issue has been resolved. Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, the candidates will be selected and announced in Delhi,” he said ahead of the party’s core committee meeting in New Delhi.
The BJP leader also dismissed the speculation of discomfort within the alliance partner over seat-sharing emphasising that the NDA alliance is united and will contest the election strongly to form a strong majority government in the state.
“All discussions regarding the NDA alliance have been completed. Only the formal announcement remains. We believe it will be announced by tomorrow evening. The central leadership will be the one to make the announcement,” added the BJP leader.
As per reports, the NDA leaders have sorted out the issues over seat-sharing, with both BJP and Janata Dal [United] JDU expected to contest on around 100 seats each. The Lok Janshakti Party [Ramvilas]-LJP[R] led by Union Minister Chirag Paswan on the other hand is likely to get around 25-26 seats. The remaining two alliance partners, Hindustan Awami Morch [HAM] led by Union Minister Jeetan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha led Rashtriya Lok Morcha [RLM] are likely to get 7-8 seats each.
This comes after Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister Nityanand Rai and senior BJP leader and BJP election in-charge Vinod Tawde held a series of meeting with leaders of alliance parties followed by a meeting of BJP and JDU leaders in Patna. Earlier Union Minister Nityanand Rai also met with Union Minister Chirag Paswan.
Speaking with the media, Union Minister Paswan on Friday said that the talks are going in positive and in the end stage now.
“The talks are going in a positive manner and are in their end stage now. We want to hold discussion on all minute issued, seats, candidates and campaigning,” said Paswan.

Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan parties on the other hand are also likely to reach a consensus over the seat-sharing by Saturday. As per reports, the Rashtriya Janata Dal [RJD] is likely to contest on around 130-140 seats of the 243 seats assembly, with the Indian National Congress [INC] likely to contest on somewhere between [50-60] seats.
The rest of the seats are likely to be given to the left parties which include the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI-ML) led by Deepankar Bhattacharya, the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), and Mukesh Sahani’s led Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP).
ECI announced the schedule for the Bihar polls on October 6. The polls will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with counting of votes scheduled for November 14.
The elections are likely to be fought primarily between the JDU-BJP led NDA and RJD-Congress led Mahagathbandhan parties with Prashant Kishor led Jan Suraaj party also in the fray on the 243 state assembly seats.
