Nagpur: “There can be compromises in sur, lay and taal (melody, rhythm and beat), but the patriotic spirit inherent in a Sangh Geet is far more important and cannot be compromised. The spirit of patriotism embedded in the geet sung by the Swayamsevaks inspires everyone to serve the nation”, said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat at the launch of a special collection of RSS Geet at Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Nagpur on September 28, 2025.

He said that when a Swayamsevak sings a geet, it has an impact, because the emotions of the words are expressed through his singing. Whether it is a collective geet at the shakha or an individual singing, through every geet the collective feelings of a Swayamsevak are awakened. The words of these geet settle in the mind and inspire for national service. The Sangh has about thirty thousand geet in all Bharatiya languages.

Padma Shri Shankar Mahadevan, in his distinctive style, has sung beautifully and, by recognising and understanding the emotions embedded in the Sangh geet, has rendered them just as a Swayamsevak would. Appreciating this, Dr Mohan Bhagwat asked Shankar Mahadevan to sing more such patriotic geet so that their reach increase.

Dr Mohan Bhagwat said that, today the Sangh is the “sargam” of the country. “Shankar Mahadevan has presented the Sangh geet more effectively through his sargam,” he further added.

He said that Sangh geet are the outcome of dedication to the motherland and the tapasya of life. These geet emerge from the living experiences of the Swayamsevaks. The Sangh Geet album includes 25 geet sung by Shankar Mahadevan. During the programme, he presented 10 of these geet.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that through Sangh geet such as “Nirmanon ke pavan yug mein hum charitra nirmaan na bhoolein,” every Swayamsevak is inspired towards good character building. Each Sangh geet is deeply inspiring and motivates liveliness.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that good lessons in life can be learnt only through Sangh geet and intellectual sessions. There is immense power in words, music and singing. Since music enters the heart and awakens sensitivity. The inspiring and patriotic Sangh geet are widely listened, he said.

At the beginning of the programme, Shankar Mahadevan presented former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ‘Nirmanon ke pavan yug mein hum charitra nirmaan na bhoolein’, Shridhar Bhaskar’s ‘Mansa Satatam Smaraneeyam’, ‘Hum karein rashtra aradhan’, ‘Balasagar Bharat hovo’, ‘Charaiveti Charaiveti’, ‘Sanskriti sabki ek chirantan’, ‘Dhvaj Kesari Shivacha’, ‘Ekta Swatantra Samanta rahe’, ‘Sur sangam taal sangam’, ‘Vishva mein goonje hamari Bharati’ and more.

His singing not only mesmerised the audience but also filled them with patriotism. After each geet, the hall reverberated with chants of Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram.

This event, organised on the occasion of the Sangh’s centenary year, was a unique confluence of patriotism, Sanskriti, and music.

On this occasion, Maharashtra’s Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Professor Anil Sole were also present. The programme was anchored by renowned actor Sharad Kelkar.
