The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has issued a statement cautioning against the programmes of agitation announced by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and other Muslim organisations over the amendments to the Waqf Act.
According to the press release dated on September 27, the VHP noted that Muslim organisations have called for a series of nationwide protests. These include appeals for Muslims across the country to keep their shops and institutions closed for a day, a campaign being promoted on social media as a “Bharat Bandh.” On another day, Muslims have been urged to demonstrate and court arrest in Delhi as well as in all state capitals. Plans have also been announced for marches towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi and the Raj Bhavans in various states. Additionally, delegations are expected to submit memoranda to Chief Ministers across the country against the Waqf Act amendments.
The VHP statement, quoting its International President Alok Kumar, pointed out that the AIMPLB, the Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind, the All India Majlis-e-Mushawarat, and other organisations had described the interim order of the Supreme Court on the Waqf Act as a “victory of the spirit of the Constitution” and as proof that “justice is still alive in our country.”
Alok Kumar said it was paradoxical that despite welcoming the interim order, the organisations had declared an agitational programme without waiting for the Supreme Court’s final judgment. He remarked that it is unusual for groups to challenge the law in Court on one hand and simultaneously launch nationwide movements on the other before a final decision is pronounced.

The VHP also drew attention to incidents of violence reported during Barawafat (Milad-un-Nabi) programmes earlier this month. The organisation expressed concern that similar violence and vandalism could occur during the protests announced against the Waqf Act amendments. “The VHP apprehends that there could be violence and vandalism during the agitational programmes called against the Waqf Amendment Act. This will be a big threat to the law and order situation of Bharat and social harmony,” the statement read.
According to the VHP, the primary responsibility of ensuring peace lies with those organising the agitation. The release stated that organisers must ensure that the programmes remain peaceful and do not involve vandalism, rioting, or attacks on government and private properties.
The statement also urged both the central and state governments to be fully prepared to handle all possible situations, especially in view of the resentment and anger being spread through social media campaigns.
In its concluding appeal, the VHP called upon society to remain vigilant for self-defence during what it described as a “campaign of hatred and frenzy.” It urged citizens to take all necessary steps to maintain peace and ensure that law and order prevails.
