Raipur: Maoists have executed two villagers in back to back incidents in Chhattisgarh’s Naxal-hit Bastar divisions, suggest reports floating in media.

As per details, a 36-year-old villager was hacked to death in Maoist-hit Bijapur district while another villager was killed in a similar attack carried out by Naxals in Dantewada district.

In the first incident, members of the outlawed group barged into the Benchram village of Jangala police station limits on late Tuesday night and forcibly entered the house of Dasru Ram Oyaam.

The extremists dragged Oyaam out of his house and attacked him with an axe, hacking him to death. The attack was carried out by members of Bhairamgarh area committee on suspicion of Oyaam being an informer of police.

A police team reached the spot on Wednesday morning and subsequently sent the body for autopsy. A probe has been initiated in connection with the ghastly murder.

In another similar attack, a Maoist’s group killed another villager in Dantewada district. The incident occurred on the intervening night of September 16-17 under Aranpur police station where Maoists abducted and killed Bandi Korram, a resident of Nilvaya village. Korram was reported to be on the target of Maoists and his son was also killed in an attack carried out by Naxals a few years back.

More than 30 civilians have been so far killed in separate attacks carried out by Maoists in Chhattisgarh since January this year alone. This include back to back killings of education volunteers in August and two villagers in the first week of September, raising serious concerns over the safety of civilians residing in remote areas.

Significantly, the killing of villagers in Bijapur and Dantewada has occurred hours after a purported letter [press note] of Maoist’s Central Committee, offering to lay down arms surfaced in the media.

The purported letter issued on the name of CPI [Maoist] spokesperson Abhay stated that the banned group is ready to surrender arms, and hold talks with the government.

The letter dated August 15 surfaced late evening of Tuesday and mentioned that the government should announce a month-long halt on the ongoing search operation to allow internal consultation among the members of the group, operating across states and those lodged in jails.

Reacting to the press note, the state’s deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma has said that the government is verifying the authenticity of the letter as it has certain new elements, and a decision will be taken only after the letter turns out to be authentic.

“Abhay is their spokesperson, through whom a letter was issued dated August 15, 2025. If at that time they had the intention of ending the conflict and negotiating peace, then why were our education ambassadors killed? Why did so many IED blasts occur?… The format of the letter also has significant changes. There is inclusion of photos, a change in wording, and the inclusion of email addresses and Facebook IDs,” said the deputy CM while speaking to ANI.

“The Union Home Minister stated very clearly that Naxalism would end in Bastar by March 2026. CM Vishnu Deo Sai guided everyone and today, the situation in Bastar has changed. The government has only one goal: that the Constitution of India should be implemented in every village and corner of Bastar. The IEDs planted along the roads of every village in Bastar should be removed. Development should reach the villages of Bastar,” he added while adding that checking the authenticity of this letter will take some time.
