An Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer, Nupur Bora, serving as Circle Officer of Goroimari in Kamrup district, was arrested on September 16 by the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell on charges of corruption after a probe revealed assets disproportionate to her known sources of income by over 416 per cent.
Police conducted raids in multiple properties belonging to the arrested officer in Guwahati and Barpeta. Cash of 1.2 crores and gold and diamond jeweleries worth Rs over one crore were seized by the police. She was produced in a local court in Guwahati and sent to three days police custody. Police sources said that they have seized 14 gold chains, 3 diamond neckless, 15 diamond rings and 2 diamond bracelets from her possessions. The young ACS officer also has 3 flats on her name in Guwahati. People were shocked that within 6 years of her service Nupur Borah accumulated such huge property. Police said she received a salary of 42 lakhs in 6 years and her property is over several crores.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there are some serious allegations against the arrested ACS officer. During her tenure as CO in Barpeta district, she transferred and registered land of Hindu people to suspected (Miya-Muslim) people. She was in the radar of CM Vigilance for the last 6 months. He further said that the arrested civil service officer transferred Hindu people’s land to Miya Muslim people for huge cash.
She was transferred from Barpeta and vigilance was doing an investigation secretly. It was found in the investigation that she was directly involved in the illegal land right transfer deal for huge amounts of money. Locals in Barpeta alleged that the lady officer even transferred a huge plot of land belonging to Satra (Vaishavite spiritual center) to Miya-Muslims.
She even registered riverine land (government land) in the name of Miya-Muslim for huge amounts of money. CM Sarma also said that the government has zero tolerance against corruption and she had committed serious offences by illegally transferring Hindu people’s land to suspected people. Police will seriously investigate the matter and the government will make sure that the corrupted officer gets punishment for her crimes.
