Guwahati: In a grand display and celebration of national pride, a 108-foot-high mast National Flag — the tallest in the region — was unfurled on September 11 at Tezpur Military Garrison, Assam. Amid chants of Bharat Mata Ki Jai, the Tiranga soared high above the treeline, touching the sky with grace, glory and symbolising unity, strength and patriotism.

The ceremony was attended by GOC Gajraj Corps, Lt Gen Gambhir Singh, AVSM, YSM, who addressed soldiers, students, and NCC cadets, inspiring them to embrace discipline, service, and to dream big for a strong and saksham Bharat. Adding importance and sanctity to the occasion were the Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, state government officials, members of the Central Armed Police Forces, and more than 250 local residents, families, teachers, and schoolchildren, creating an upbeat and vibrant environment.

The endeavour was strongly supported by Maj Gen Aseem Kohli (Retd.) of the Flag Foundation of India, who was also present. The foundation aims to use the National Flag as a symbol of unity, strength, national pride, and patriotism across all sections of society.

The monumental event was a stirring reminder of the enduring spirit and resolve to build a vibrant national community in Assam, leaving a lasting impact.

National Integration tour for students of Assam

The Indian Army flagged off a National Integration Tour under Operation Sadbhavana for tribal students of Tinsukia district, Assam, on 10 September 2025.

The tour will take the students first to New Delhi, where they will meet the Hon’ble President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan and visit other prominent heritage sites. They will then travel to Mumbai to visit Indian Navy warships and explore cultural landmarks, followed by a trip to Ahilya Nagar to visit The Armoured Corps Centre and School (ACC&S). Here, students will familiarise themselves with battle tanks and experience exhilarating tank rides, observe the training of Agniveers handling tanks, and participate in various interactive activities.

During the flag-off ceremony, Army officials of the Red Shield Division under the Spear Corps interacted with the students and their parents. Parents expressed happiness at the wonderful opportunity, and the students shared their excitement for the forthcoming activities they would be experiencing. They boarded the buses with electrifying enthusiasm, eager to embark on this unique journey of learning and exploration.

The National Integration Tour aims to broaden horizons, instill pride in India’s rich heritage and inspire the youth of Upper Assam to grow as confident individuals and responsible citizens of the nation.
