Raipur: In a major success for security forces, a total of 10 hardcore Maoists including a high ranking Central Committee [CC] member of the banned CPI [Maoist] was gunned down in an ongoing encounter in Chhattisgarh on Thursday.
Manoj alias Modem Balkrishna, a CC member of the Maoist group was among those killed in the encounter with a joint team of security forces in Gariaband district. A seasoned Maoist Modem Balkrishna was said to be carrying a huge bounty on his head.

The development has been confirmed by senior officials and more details about the gunfight are still awaited.
The gunfight broke out in the Bhaludiigi forest area under the jurisdiction of Mainpur police station. Personnel belonging to Special Task Force [STF], Commando Battalion for Resolute Action [CoBRA] and other units of police are said to be part of the operation which is still underway with intermittent firing continuing between Naxals and security forces.
