Raipur: Operations against Maoists in Chhattisgarh will intensify after the monsoon season, suggests report. The decision has been taken in view of the target set by the Union Government to eliminate Naxal-insurgency from the country by March 2026.
As per reports, a list of 43 top Maoist commanders has been made and operations targeting them will be intensified after the monsoon season.
The list includes 25 Chhattisgarh based top Naxals including Madavi Hidma, a central committee member of the banned CPI [Maoist]. 5 among the 43 wanted Naxals are from Andhra Pradesh while 4 each are from Jharkhand and Telangana.
The list includes name of top Maoists leader like Mupalla Lakshman Rao and Mishir Besra who is said to be active in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum- Kolhan region.
The decision to intensify operations, targeting the top cadres of the banned group came after the crucial security meet attended by senior officials of the police, intelligence and other central forces in State’s capital.
As per officials, efforts are being made to improve co-ordination between Naxal-affected States along real time information sharing and intelligence gathering. The operations against Maoists will be made more intelligence based and the forces will also use artificial intelligence [AI] technology.
Campaign against Maoists
Forces in Chhattisgarh have amped up operations against the banned Maoist outfit, neutralising over 400 Maoists since January last year.
In a significant breakthrough, a team of security forces in an operation launched in May this year gunned down the general secretary of the Maoist group Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju.
In addition to intensified campaign, the government in the last few years have also set up hundreds of security camps in areas badly marred by Naxal-insurgency including in interiors of Abujhmad region, an erstwhile bastions of the banned group.
Similar operations in other neighbouring States such as in Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha have also met with notable successes for the forces.
According to Union Government, 18 districts in the country remained affected with Maoist-insurgency.
Out of the 18 districts, 6 have been put up in most-affected category which include four districts from Chhattisgarh (Bijapur, Kanker, Narayanpur, and Sukma), one from Jharkhand (West Singhbhum), and one from Maharashtra (Gadchiroli).

In addition, as many as 9 districts have been placed under the ‘Districts of Concern’ category, which includes Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitarama Raju, Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat, Odisha’s Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Malkangiri and Telangana’s Bhadradri-Kothagudem district.
The other Maoist-affected districts include Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada, Gariaband, and Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district, Jharkhand’s Latehar, Odisha’s Nuapada, and Telangana’s Mulugu district. Notably, the Union Government has set a deadline of March 2026 for elimination of Naxal insurgency from Bharat.
