Punjab, a unique and generous state of Indian politics, has contributed immensely to India’s security and agriculture. From knowledge to power display, Punjab has always been in ‘Akal Purakh ke Sahare Chardi Kala’. Currently, Punjab is going through such a terrible flood situation that it seems as if God is testing Punjab and, in this test, the courage and Brotherhood of the Punjab are won, but the ‘AAP’ government lost.
This is the second flood in Punjab during the tenure of Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government, in controlling which it has failed miserably. So far, more than 1,200 villages have submerged, 30 people have been killed and over 3,50,000 people have been affected by the floods.
At the beginning of the monsoon, the weather department report predicted heavy rainfall and the monsoon season rainfall also supported this report, but still no special steps were taken by the government. The entire Punjab is suffering the result of the negligence of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) in controlling the water level of the dam and releasing water on time. The submerged Punjab includes about 1225 villages and 1.9 lakh acres of agricultural land in 12 districts The ready crops of the farmers became victims of the flood, lakhs of people are migrating but the government is busy in its high-level meetings. The topics which should have been discussed before the disaster are being discussed in emergency meetings.
The Chief Minister of Punjab talked about releasing a fund of 60,000 crores from the central government for relief, but the question is why the Punjab government was not ready for this situation on its own? The government did send relief material through government transport which was not enough even for one person. More food stuffs and relief material sent by the government to the flood affected areas was even less sent by people from other places of Punjab. People themselves are supporting each other. The Indian security forces are giving their all in service of Punjab.
The water level of all the rivers of Punjab is at such a level that it is a matter of concern. On this, the Bhagwant Mann has targeted Rajasthan that Rajasthan did not take water due to which the water level increased. While on one hand Punjab is trying to recover even after facing the disaster, on the other hand the Chief Minister is busy in political statements.
Most of the MLAs and councilors of the government that claims to make Punjab like foreign countries in the elections are missing at the time of floods. They are nowhere to be seen inspecting the situation of cities and villages and among the public, but will definitely be seen during the future assembly elections.
At present, about 3.75 lakh acres of farmland, primarily paddy fields, remain submerged under floodwaters, leading to devastating crop losses just weeks ahead of harvesting. There has also been widespread loss of livestock, severely impacting rural households dependent on dairy and animal husbandry.The water level at Bhakra Dam has reached nearly 1,678 feet, against the danger mark of 1,680 feet. At Pong Dam, it has touched 1,393 feet, while the danger level is 1,390 feet.
By handling this situation of their own, the Punjabi society has proved that they are self-reliant and will not wait for Bhagwant Mann to come and provide them relief.
