Sukma: In a notable development, as many as 20 Maoists have surrendered before the police in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.
20 active cadres of unlawful Maoist group turned themselves before senior officials of police and Central Reserve Police Force [CRPF] on September 3, citing disappointment with the hollow ideology of Maoists. The surrendered group included of 9 female Naxal cadres.
The surrender took place under the ‘Poona Narkom’ campaign being run by the authorities in Sukma district.
As per officials, the surrendered members were also disappointed with the growing internal rifts within the proscribed group and the atrocities committed by the cadres on innocent civilians. They were all at the same time inspired by the welfare schemes of the government.
11 among the surrendered Naxals were carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 33 lakh. One of the surrendered cadre Uika Bhime was a member of the PLGA battalion no 1, the strongest formation of the Maoist’s outfit. Uike was carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh on her head.
Tati alias Parmila, a member of the west Bastar division, carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh and area committee member Muchaki Hidma carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh were also among those who surrendered on Wednesday.

Those who give up arms on Wednesday were involved in carrying out various unlawful activities on behalf of the Naxal outfit. They were all provided with an assistance of Rs 50,000 each as provisioned in the State’s Surrender Cum Victim Rehabilitation policy.
The authorities on the occasion also appealed to all Maoists to give up arms and join the mainstream.
A group of 30 Maoists surrendered before the police and CRPF officials in Bijapur district on August 27. As per details, 20 of the surrendered cadres were carrying a collective reward of Rs 81 lakhs.
Reacting to the development, Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai in a post on X said, that the State government has won the trust of the people which has led to surrender of Maoists in large numbers, eventually weakening the Maoist outfit. Sai stressed that Naxalism is weakening in Bastar division which is fast moving towards peace and development. He reiterated that the Union and State government are committed to eliminate Maoism by March 2026.
Notably over 1500 Maoists have surrendered before the police in Chhattisgarh since January last year.
