Sukma: In yet another cowardly act, members of the proscribed Maoist group have executed two more civilians in Chhattisgarh’s Naxal-hit Bastar division.
As per reports, a group of outlaws barged into the Nandapara locality of Sirsitti Panchayat of Sukma on late Monday evening and murdered two civilians on suspicion of espionage activities.
The extremists forcibly took two villagers, Devendra Padami and Pojja Padami to the nearby forest and brutally slit their throats with a sharp edge weapon after branding them as informers of police.
The ultras have also assaulted two other villagers, accusing them for carrying out similar activities. Both the villagers have sustained serious injuries in the assault and are reportedly being treated.
The horrific development marked fourth such act of civilian killing carried out by cadres of the banned group in Bastar in less than a week’s time, leaving the locals panicked and terrified.
The incidents have once again underscored the grave security threat posed by Maoists to villagers residing in Bastar’s interior regions.
Maoists on August 29 had murdered a Shikshadoot [Government appointed education volunteer] in State’s Bijapur district.
A group of ultras kidnapped Kallu Tati, an education volunteer on Friday evening when he was returning from school and later killed him on alleged charges of espionage.
The deceased was a resident of Todta village and was posted in Gangloor area. The incident follows killing of another education volunteer by Maoists in Silger village of Sukma on Wednesday.
Laxhman Barse, a Shikshadoot posted near Silger was kidnapped and brutally hacked to death by Naxals. The ultras had accused Barse for working as an informer of the police.
As per reports, over 30 civilians have been killed in Maoist related attacks in the State since January this year. Notably, over 60 incidents of civilian killings carried out by ultras, were reported from Bastar division of the State in 2024 only.
